John Wick Director About To Save Star Wars?
It’s safe to say that George Lucas’s 1977 cinematic masterpiece, Star Wars: A New Hope, not only changed the lives of most who have seen it but also inspired budding young filmmakers to carry on with their out-of-this-world dreams.
Such can certainly be said for John Wick franchise director Chad Stahelski who says the very first Star Wars film “changed” his life.
Chad Stahelski And Star Wars?
Speaking with Josh Horowitz on his podcast, Happy Sad Confused, Stahelski opened up about how that faraway galaxy helped him build his career and why it’s his dream to “take a swing” at a Star Wars film himself.
Although his niche is within the assassin-filled world of John Wick, Chad Stahelski is a self-proclaimed “‘Star Wars’ guy.” Tossing a hail mary pass to the franchise’s studio, Stahelski said, “Disney, if you’re listening, hit me up in a couple of years and I have a couple of takes for ‘Star Wars.’”
He went on to jab the House of Mouse, daring it to take the Stahelski plunge, questioning if they’d be able to “survive” him.
No Further Explanation
Stahelski’s comments, unfortunately were just a tease of what he’s thinking about bringing to the Star Wars universe.
Unfortunately (or fortunately for John Wick fans), the director and stunt professional didn’t explain further what his “takes” for Star Wars would look like.
But he did shed some light on the future of John Wick’s TV takeover.
Seemingly ending things for Keanu Reeves’s titular assassin’s big screen romps in last year’s John Wick: Chapter 4, the franchise recently took a page from the creatives behind Star Wars and branched out into series form.
The Continental
In late September, Peacock premiered The Continental: From the World of John Wick, a miniseries that followed the early life and times of the assassin’s hotel owner, Winston Scott.
Played by Ian McShane in the films, Colin Woodell appeared as the younger version of the character in an action-packed, bullet-filled three-episode special.
New Options?
Because the John Wick small-screen spinoff was just as much of a hit as Star Wars has experienced with shows including The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Ahsoka, Stahelski says that the Wick team is looking for new options.
He revealed that there’s another project that is cruising towards development, giving the update that Lionsgate (the studio that the franchise calls home) is being “very cool” about the process.
More Energy In John Wick
Although he adds that, like many other productions trying to get on their feet, the double strikes slowed down the unnamed series, the ball is rolling with talks picking up.
For now, it sounds like Chad Stahelski will continue to put all of his energy into the ever-growing world of John Wick, although we’d love to see what his vision for the Star Wars universe would be like.
More Exciting Star Wars
With Taika Waititi in line to helm a Star Wars film, likely lending his dry sense of humor and wit to the script and characters, we’d wager that Stahelski would pack some literal punches with incredible stunt sequences and pulse-pounding space chases.
The next chapter in the book of John Wick arrives later this year in the spin-off feature, Ballerina starring Ana de Armas.
