James Gunn is the filmmaker responsible for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and the upcoming DC film The Suicide Squad. As busy as the director must be, he found the time to write a Peacemaker series for John Cena’s The Suicide Squad character. The series will stream on HBO Max. James Gunn actually wrote all eight episodes of the series himself and is directing five of the episodes. That leaves three episodes in the hands of other directors. Finally, we have news on who will be handling those episodes. It all started with a tweet from James Gunn, where he casually mentions the name of the first of the three.

All the director was trying to tell us here was about the funny joke with the titling mistake and the fun patches that were made with John Cena’s face as Peacemaker. However, immediately, fans jumped to the name Jody Hill.

From what we’ve seen in The Suicide Squad trailer, we know that it’s going to be wildly hilarious. John Cena plays a dark but funny character, so it’s safe to bet that Peacemaker is going to be along the same lines. Jody Hill is known for working as a writer, producer, and director on several comedies. He’s most known for Observe and Report, a movie starring Seth Rogen and Anna Faris. He’s also known for working on movies and television series with Danny McBride. His work is often off the wall and reaches a specific audience who know and love him for it.
Other fans replied to James Gunn’s tweet more focused on the hilarity of the patch. Many were encouraging Gunn to create a project using the cheesy name once he’s done with John Cena’s Peacemaker.
"Peacemaker" is a Suicide Squad character. "Peacemaster" is a character from a cheesy 80s action movie and this is the one you need to make next.

It’s unclear if James Gunn knew that he was making a big announcement when he mentioned Jody Hill in his original tweet, but the internet got excited fast. It’s another sign that there’s going to be a lot to look forward to with The Suicide Squad characters in the future, particularly for John Cena’s Peacemaker. The series has been filming and we’ve gotten our first look behind the scenes. This also has Gunn opening up more. He says that it’s hard to call the DC series a “superhero” series, since John Cena’s character is actually a “piece of shit”, according to what he told Empire.
Since this initial tweet, we now know the two other directors announced for the Peacemaker episodes that James Gunn is handing off. One is Brad Anderson, who has worked on episodes of Titans for comic book-inspired projects. The other is Rosemary Rodriguez, who worked as a director on Jessica Jones and The Walking Dead.
