Joey King Just Signed A Huge Streaming Deal
Joey King continues to impress in Hollywood.
This article is more than 2 years old
Joey King is solidifying herself as the queen of show business both on and off the camera thanks to a newly inked deal with Netflix that will see her expand her already massive presence on the streaming platform.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Joey King’s new deal allows her to produce and develop films by way of her All The King’s Horses production company, which is already working on a project with the streaming giant. It’s worth noting that, at just 21-years-old, the deal makes the young star one of the youngest creatives to strike such a deal with the company.
Fans may already know Joey King from her starring role on the young adult franchise The Kissing Booth at Netflix. She’s previously starred in two movies in the franchise and is poised to lead its third, set for release on August 11, 2021. Ever the Hollywood go-getter, she is also an executive producer on the third film.
Based on a novel by the same name by Beth Reekles, the story follows Joey King as a late-blooming high schooler whose budding relationship with a senior puts her lifelong friendship with his younger brother in jeopardy. It was released in 2018 and spawned a sequel that was released on Netflix last year.
That’s not her only current Netflix venture inked prior to her latest deal. Deadline reports that Joey King’s production company is currently locked in a partnership with Netflix to produce a film adaptation of Uglies. Set directly in her wheelhouse of young adult book adaptations, Uglies is based on the first installment of Scott Westerfeld’s dystopian book series.
While that may be all she’s got going on at Netflix at the moment, those are far from her only upcoming credits. Joey King will appear alongside Brad Pitt in the action thriller Bullet Train for Sony and she just wrapped production on The In Between at Paramount and she’s expected to pivot to The Princess for 20th Century Fox soon after, where she is also an executive producer.
Somehow, that’s not all. She’s also poised to return to the streaming giant that put her name on the map, Hulu, for another adaptation of a Young Adult franchise, Spark of Light. According to TheWrap, Joey King will play the daughter of a hostage negotiator who responds to an active shooter taking hostages at a woman’s clinic. On that particularly tragic day, his daughter is among the hostages. The outlet reports that her character will be joined as hostages by a nurse, a wounded woman, a doctor, a pro-life protester-tuned-patient, a young woman who has come to terminate her pregnancy as well as the male gunman.
Hulu marks a big return for King, who received an Emmy nomination in 2019 for her role as Gypsy Rose Blanchard in The Act, which told the real-life story of the famous case of Blanchard, whose mother forced her to pretend to be sick, leading to a shocking murder plot that captivated the country.
With so much wind at her back and so many projects already on her plate, fans can only wonder what Joey King will bring to Netflix as part of her deal amid her ever-mounting list of projects.
