Joe Pesci is back, and he’s going to be starring alongside Pete Davidson and Edie Falco in an upcoming half-hour comedy on the Peacock platform. The series is titled Bupkis and will focus on telling a heightened version of Pete Davidson’s life. Pesci will be playing the role of Davidson’s grandfather and Falco will be playing his mother in the series.

Joe Pesci is at the point in his career where he’s picking and choosing his roles carefully, as the actor has taken extremely long hiatuses between projects since his biggest roles in the ’80s and ’90s. In 1999, he even announced that he would mostly be retiring from acting. Since then, he has only chosen a few projects. Most recently, Pesci made his big return to movies in 2019 with Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman. The film saw Pesci returning to his crime movie roots, depicting Russell Bufalino opposite Robert de Niro’s Frank Sheeran and Al Pacino’s Jimmy Hoffa. The return to form earned him a Best Supporting Actor nod at the 2020 Academy Awards, making it the third Oscar nomination of his career. Pesci was previously nominated for two other Scorsese films, Goodfellas and Raging Bull. He took home the award for his performance in Goodfellas.

Before returning to the big screen (or Netflix screen, since this was during the height of the pandemic) in The Irishman, Joe Pesci’s last movie role was a voice role in the animated movie A Warrior’s Tail, which is a Russian movie you likely haven’t heard of, and before that was in 2010 with the film Love Ranch, where he starred opposite Helen Mirren. In short, it’s not often you get Joe Pesci to take on a project, so fans will definitely be tuning in for the upcoming Bupkis series, at least to check it out.

While it’s rare that we get to see Joe Pesci in a movie role, it’s even rarer that we get to see him on TV. In fact, the only TV series he starred in before Bupkis was the 1985 detective dramedy, Half Nelson. Pesci is set to star as a series regular in Bupkis, so we should likely be seeing plenty of his performance. Along with starring in the series, Pete Davidson will also be co-writing and executive producing. Dave Sirus and Judah Miller will be his other co-writers and executive producers on the project. Miller will also serve as showrunner. Jason Orley is on board as director as well as co-executive producer. According to Deadline, the show is being compared to Larry David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm in tone.

As of now, Pete Davidson, Edie Falco, and Joe Pesci are the only members of the cast announced. Pete Davidson just wrapped up his final season on Saturday Night Live and Edie Falco most recently portrayed Hillary Clinton in American Crime Story. Falco is also appearing in the upcoming Avatar sequel Avatar: The Way of Water. There’s no word on a release date yet for Bupkis, but we’ll keep you updated on any and all news about the series.
