JK Rowling Thrashes Harry Potter Stars Over Controversial Beliefs
JK Rowling is making headlines again and for all the wrong reasons this time. The Harry Potter author is continuing her feud with supporters of transgender rights. This time, she has brought the fight to the stars of the film franchise she created–Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe.
A Recent Review
JK Rowling has expressed her outrage all over social media and she is mainly upset due to the review conducted by pediatrician Dr. Hilary Cass and her findings. Dr. Cass released a four-year review on how Britain’s National Health Service (NHS) treats young people with gender identity issues. The report has put the spotlight on the lack of long-term outcomes in their treatments.
JK Rowling has become pretty upset with these findings, claiming that “thousands are complicit, not just medics, but the celebrity mouthpieces, unquestioning media and cynical corporations.”
Rowling Says She Won’t Forgive Radcliffe Or Watson
As always, her post garnered massive attention, and numerous comments appeared minutes after her angry tweet. One of the comments says, “Just waiting for Dan and Emma to give you a very public apology … safe in the knowledge that you will forgive them,”.
In her response, JK Rowling said, “Not safe, I’m afraid. Celebs who cosied up to a movement intent on eroding women’s hard-won rights and who used their platforms to cheer on the transitioning of minors can save their apologies for traumatised detransitioners and vulnerable women reliant on single sex spaces.”
Radcliffe and Watson Disagree With Rowling
Radcliffe and Watson have made their views clear. Back in 2020, Radcliffe and JK Rowling had another feud on the same topic, and this time he responded to her tweet with a message on the Trevor Project’s webpage, an organization that supports LGBTQ+ youth. He said that transgender women are women and that erasing their identity is a harmful measure.
He went forward to acknowledge the discrimination trans women face and the need to support their causes.
Emma Watson then joined and in a tweet expressed her respect and love for transgender people.
Rowling Isn’t Winning Over New Fans
JK Rowling’s recent comments have reignited the debate on trans rights. Ever since 2020, she has been in the news for her stance on the matter, and every time she takes it up a notch, resulting in a fan backlash. Many people who disagree with her views have expressed their disappointment saying that they wish they never read any of her works.
Furthermore, Rowling-related products have taken financial hits. For example, because of JK Rowling’s past comments some gamers, especially those who identify as LBGTQ, called for a boycott of the Harry Potter game Hogwarts Legacy.
Don’t Hold Your Breath For It To End
While Rowling awaits a public apology from Radcliffe and Watson, their differences grow deeper, and the online feud likely won’t come to an end anytime soon. This has made some fans alienated from J.K. Rowling’s work, but she still has strong supporters who aren’t shy to say that they are on the same side as her.
