Jim Carrey Is Resurrecting A Beloved Character For A New Movie
Even though Jim Carrey has rarely made sequels to his films, a new rumor suggests that Carrey could be bringing back one of his most famous characters.

Even though Jim Carrey made some of the biggest comedies of the 1990s, the actor has rarely made a sequel to one of his films. Beyond 1995’s Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls and 2014’s Dumb and Dumber To, most of Carrey’s films have been original projects. But a new rumor suggests that Carrey could be bringing back one of his most famous characters.
We Got This Covered is reporting a new rumor from Daniel Richtman, who states that a third film in the Ace Ventura franchise is currently in the works. Before getting too excited about the news, Richtman doesn’t say where he heard these claims from, and the article also notes Richtman has recently predicted that Jim Carrey is also working on sequels to How The Grinch Stole Christmas, Dumb and Dumber, Bruce Almighty, and somehow, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
This also includes rumors that there are spinoffs coming centered on Jim Carrey’s Sonic the Hedgehog character Doctor Robotnik and that Carrey might return as Riddler in The Flash. It seems as though Richtman is simply throwing out as many random predictions as possible, and crossing his fingers one of these self-made rumors comes true.
Many of these rumors seem completely ridiculous. For example, Jim Carrey has notoriously said how much he hated getting into the Grinch makeup, so why would he make a second? Not to mention that after Mike Myers’ The Cat in the Hat, the Dr. Seuss estate called an end to all future live-action Seuss remakes.
But Jim Carrey also didn’t return for the Bruce Almighty sequel, Evan Almighty, and considering that film was one of the biggest flops in cinema history, it seems extremely unlikely that a third film would ever get greenlit. Also considering Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind writer Charlie Kaufman seems completely averse to franchises or sequels of any kind, a sequel to his most beloved film also seems impossible.
In addition to the unlikelihood of any upcoming sequels to early Jim Carrey properties, We Got This Covered and Daniel Richtman also announced Ace Ventura 3 last year, saying it was ready to go. Morgan Creek has said back in 2017 that they were looking at possibly relaunching Ace Ventura, but again, nothing came of it.
Yet Ace Ventura has continued without Jim Carrey’s involvement in several iterations. The Ace Ventura: Pet Detective animated series lasted on CBS for two years, as did animated series based on The Mask and Dumb and Dumber. There was also a third Ace Ventura film made for Cartoon Network, entitled Ace Ventura Jr.: Pet Detective in 2007.
But with some exceptions, Jim Carrey has mostly navigated his career towards original ideas. Carrey seems to be reprising his Stanley Ipkiss character from The Mask for the upcoming Space Jam: A New Legacy, and he is expected to return as Dr. Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Yet despite the rumor of an Ace Ventura 3 existing with no forward momentum for years now, this current update seems more like a scattershot attempt to predict unlikely pop culture news, rather than having any basis in reality.
