Whether it’s fighting off aliens bent on destroying the world in the Marvel Cinematic Universe or reclaiming his life after a devastating snow plow accident, Jeremy Renner is up for the challenge. While the actor has returned to TV following his almost life-ending injuries in 2023, Jeremy Renner has now marked his first feature-length project in Netflix’s Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.

Known to be a close friend of the franchise’s director, Rian Johnson, it was only a matter of time until the actor worked his way into one of the killer call sheets in the filmmaker’s anthology film series.

Jeremy Renner’s Role Is A Mystery

Currently, Jeremy Renner’s character in Netflix’s latest Knives Out film remains just as much of a mystery as Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) will face when Wake Up Dead Man arrives on the streamer next year. But, the call sheet is growing in numbers and stardom as the MCU actor joins a slew of famous faces that include Andrew Scott (All of Us Strangers), Glenn Close (Fatal Attraction), Cailee Spaeny (Alien: Romulus), Kerry Washington (Scandal), and Josh O’Connor (Challengers).

A new casting announcement is made seemingly every day, so we can expect to see another A-list star drop into the feature alongside Renner and his peers in no time.

Glass Onion Made Renner The Butt Of Many Good-Natured Jokes

Those who tuned in for Glass Onion, the second film in Johnson’s Knives Out franchise, will remember that Jeremy Renner made several semi-appearances in the Netflix movie, but just in name alone. The actor was continuously the butt of a multitude of jokes, with one of the running bits being his line of hot sauce. Now, going full meta, it will be interesting to see how Johnson weaves his friend into his latest project and if the writing team will continue to push the envelope between the real-life Renner and whoever his character will be.

Jeremy Renner Will Never Have A Bad Day Again

It’s hard to believe that only a year ago, Jeremy Renner was in no condition to be in Netflix’s upcoming Knives Out project or any other production for that matter. While attempting to help a family member with snow removal during a particularly tough winter in California’s Lake Tahoe last January, the actor landed in the hospital with 30 broken bones and chest trauma.

Those early days were especially difficult for his loved ones as it was unclear if Renner would pull through and, if he did, how different his life may be.

Mayor Of Kingstown Is Coming Back Soon

Thankfully, not only did Jeremy Renner beat one of the most devastating challenges to be thrown his way but he almost immediately got back into the swing of things, with the Netflix movie being just one of his newer projects. Last year saw the arrival of his documentary home-improvement Disney+ series, Rennervations, and soon, the third season of his crime drama, Mayor of Kingstown will hit Paramount+.

Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery is teased as the toughest case to come across Benoit Blanc’s desk so far, with a suspect list that shows no signs of slowing down. Given a release window of 2025, the Jeremy Renner-led Netflix film has yet to set a specific release date, but stay tuned for more information and further casting announcements.
