Jeremy Renner Shines In An Ensemble Comedy Climbing The Streaming Chart
Jeremy Renner's comedy, Tag, is climbing the streaming charts on Prime Video.
Jeremy Renner’s world came to a screeching halt back on the first day of the new year when the beloved Marvel actor had a life-threatening accident involving a snow plow. Thankfully, he pulled out of it and is back with his family and living his best life. Sharing their support in any way possible, FlixPatrol reports that fans have helped launch the star’s comedy Tag to the number seven position on Prime Video’s Top 10.
In 2018, Jeremy Renner put down his bow and picked up a comedic role in a film based on the real-life story of a group of childhood friends who would commit one month a year to play the kid-friendly game of tag. Helmed by Jeff Tomsic in the filmmaker’s feature-length debut, the director didn’t hold back on ensuring that no one but the best would make the cut for his film. Along with Renner, Tag also stars Ed Helms, Hannibal Burress, Jon Hamm, and Jake Johnson as the forever young men with ensemble performances from Rashida Jones, Leslie Bibb, Isla Fisher, and Annabelle Wallis.
Though sequel rumors swirled, nothing has yet come to fruition. While the crew beat its budget, the film was largely panned by critics and currently sits at 56 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. For Jeremy Renner, his work in the comedy doesn’t even touch his most celebrated roles in projects like The Hurt Locker and the MCU favorite Avengers: Endgame.
Never one to turn down making a role his own, Jeremy Renner’s commitment to his craft landed him in the hospital during filming for Tag when a stunt gone wrong ended in some broken bones. Shortly after filming began during the summer of 2017, the American Hustle star plummeted 20 feet during a stunt which in turn gave him a fractured right elbow and left wrist. Not willing to quit just yet, he gave the move another go before finally deciding that it was time to seek medical attention.
In the film’s final cut, the editors were able to use CGI to remove his casts, leaving none the wiser about the lengths Renner went to for that perfect shot.
Although Jeremy Renner has appeared in a slew of titles playing everyone from the monstrous serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer to his critically acclaimed role in the gritty war feature, The Hurt Locker, many associate the actor with his MCU character Clint Barton aka Hawkeye. Since 2011 the actor has shot arrows and saved the world as a member of the Avengers, appearing in a slew of films and changing the course of the war against Thanos in Avengers: Endgame. Never landing his own films like fellow stars Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth have, Renner’s Hawkeye received a spinoff series thanks to Disney+.
Introducing some new characters and the masterpiece known as Rogers: The Musical to the world, Hawkeye saw Jeremy Renner’s titular character team up with an up-and-comer named Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) which in turn laid the groundwork for new heroes and villains to make their way into future MCU productions. The return of one of those villains, Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin, was a major step forward for the future of the Daredevil franchise which will soon receive its well-deserved next chapter in Disney+ and Marvel’s Daredevil: Reborn.
Staying busy on the small screen, Jeremy Renners’ Taylor Sheridan-created crime thriller Mayor of Kingstown is still going strong following its second season on Paramount+. As we discovered via his snow plow accident, the actor also has a talent for getting his hands dirty with tools and will be using those skills to help out underserved communities in his Disney+ reality series, Rennervations. Recently premiering on the streaming service, it’s been great to see the actor back in action, even if everything was taped long before his life-altering accident.
As of right now, Jeremy Renner’s number one concern is taking the time to heal and spend every minute with his close friends and family. With no projects yet announced, it’s clear that the accident has shifted how he looks at his life, forcing him to focus on those “little” things that we all take for granted. With plenty of shows and movies to choose from on a variety of streaming platforms, audiences can take in the actor’s great work no matter the day of the week.
