The season 3 premiere of The Boys is just around the corner, which means it’s time for a new trailer to ratchet up the hype. The Boys season 3 will introduce new characters, like Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy. This Captain America-inspired supe isn’t quite the boy scout that the Marvel Universe equivalent is, and you definitely get a sense of that in the trailer. Get your best look yet at Soldier Boy in action and check out the Tweet below:
We get a couple of glimpses of Jensen Ackles in the trailer. We see him with his much longer beard look, his cleaned-up beard look, and even a shot of him in his super suit. Just like Captain America, Soldier Boy is a World War II-era hero who finds himself in the modern age. He even has a shield. Unlike Captain America, Soldier Boy is a violent bigot. As always, The Boys finds a way to subvert superhero tropes and turn them into entertaining episodes of television.
It’ll be interesting to see how close the Soldier Boy Jensen Ackles plays in the show sticks to the version from the Garth Ennis source material. In the comic, Soldier Boy is a part of the superhero group Payback, but it looks like he might be joining The Seven in the TV Show. We also see some glimpses of some other new heroes, including Crimson Countess (Laurie Holden) and Swatto (Joel Labelle). These two heroes are similar to Scarlet Witch and Ant-Man.
In addition to our extended looks at Jensen Ackles’ new character, we also get to catch up with the returning characters in the trailer. Of course, Anthony Starr’s Homelander is prominently featured, and he seems to be even more mentally messed up than before. After losing stable elements in his life like Madelyn Stillwell and Stormfront, it remains to be seen how he acts from here on. Knowing Homelander, it’s not going to be good.
Of course, we also have to catch up with The Boys themselves. After having their names cleared last season, Hughie, Billy, and the rest are working in an official capacity, instead of vigilante-style. Billy Butcher seems like he’s getting a bit restless with this new status quo, so we’ll see how long that lasts. Also, the show is taking a notable cue from the comics and finally giving the Boys superpowers, with a chemical that gives them superpowers for a day. We even see Butcher using some heat vision in the trailer.
We won’t have to wait too much longer to see Jensen Ackles in action as Soldier Boy. The upcoming season 3 premiere is set to hit Amazon on June 3. The first three episodes will be available to stream right away and then the remaining episodes will be released every Friday until July 8. If you just can’t wait for more content from The Boys, you can always check out the animated spin-off series The Boys: Diabolical on Amazon Prime now. Though the episodes are mostly just for fun, the final episode is supposedly canon and connects to the third season.
