Fighting evil superpowered “heroes” is hard work, so Jensen Ackles from The Boys took a break and some set photos between takes. Posing against a tree in the costume of his character Soldier Boy, the actor looks ready to spring into action in pictures shared by the show’s official Twitter account. Soldier Boy debuted on the show in its third season, which premiered on Amazon Prime on June 3, 2022.
The photos feature co-stars Karl Urban and Jack Quaid and were taken during the filming of the episode “Herogasm,” which is the sixth episode of the third season. During the episode, Butcher, Hughie, and Soldier Boy make an alliance to kill Homelander, played by Antony Starr, during a party the episode is named after. The episode promises lots of action and gore, and the photos of Jensen Ackles are one of the few from this installment of The Boys that could be shared.
The “Herogasm” episode was a challenge to film for both Jensen Ackles and the crew of The Boys. Series creator Eric Kripke believes that nothing the show does will ever surpass the episode, and considers it one of the best of the series. He also added that Amazon allowed the show to unleash its creativity as a reward for two previous and well-received seasons.
Soldier Boy is the show’s version of Captain America, a supersoldier that wound up being experimented on by the Russians after his team, Payback, sold him out. Jensen Ackles’ character is then rescued by Butcher and Hughie as The Boys’ protagonists need him in order to neutralize the evil Superman parody, Homelander. “Herogasm” sees the two superheroes in combat with one another in a climactic battle that elicited praise from critics and fans.
While Jensen Ackles got his start working on superhero shows like Dark Angel and Smallville before appearing in The Boys, he is best known as Dean Winchester in Supernatural and its spin-off The Winchesters. He currently provides voice talent for a variety of Batman properties, which will include the upcoming Legion of Super-Heros. He is also starring in the third season of the Montana-set crime drama Big Sky.
He was also playing a lead role in the ill-fated Alec Baldwin Western Rust. The movie set was the site of the accidental shooting death of Halyna Hutchins, the cinematographer, and the wounding of its director, Joel Souza by the same bullet. Jensen Ackles had not been implicated in the shooting and his involvement in the movie’s production did not interfere with his appearance on The Boys.
Jensen Ackles is already confirmed for season four of The Boys alongside his other projects, meaning the show will see more of Soldier Boy and fans may get to see more alluring behind-the-scenes photos of him in costume. Fans can catch up with him, Butcher, Hughie, Starlight, and the rest of The Seven on Amazon Prime. Meanwhile, fans who can’t get enough of Jensen Ackles can tune into ABC for Big Sky or hear him tell the story of The Winchesters on The CW.
