We know she has the talent!

Fans of Jennifer Lawrence’s portrayal of Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games franchise will be happy to know that they’ll soon see the actress in an upcoming action drama titled Causeway. The high octane A24 flick will find its way to Apple TV+ later this year as well as onto big screens across the country. Penned by Otessa Moshfegh, Luke Goebel, and Elizabeth Sanders, the Lila Neugebauer helmed project will see Lawrence starring as a soldier who has just come home from fighting overseas. Down and out, drained from what she’s been through as a member of the military, the woman is facing her biggest challenge yet as she tries to pick up the pieces of her life back home in New Orleans. Brian Tyree Henry has also joined the cast in a principal part.
This past year marked a bit of a comeback for the Academy Award winning actress who we last saw in 2019’s X-Men film, Dark Phoenix. In 2021, Jennifer Lawrence began to return to screens everywhere in her Netflix comedy drama, Don’t Look Up. The Adam McKay vehicle saw the star working alongside a slew of huge Hollywood names including Leonardo DiCaprio, Cate Blanchett, Timothée Chalamet, Meryl Streep, Mark Rylance, Ariana Grande, and Jonah Hill. The satirical doomsday film centers around two astronomers who are screaming into the void when it comes to their warnings of climate change and a comet that is on a crash course to demolish the entire globe. McKay and Lawrence must have loved working together as the duo have another project in the works.
Like Jennifer Lawrence’s newly announced Causeway, she and McKay will be teaming up with Apple Original Films for the creation of the previously revealed Bad Blood. A hot topic in the entertainment biz from books to podcasts to movies and limited series, the story of debunked Theranos creator, Elizabeth Holmes, has been all the rage over the past few years. While the Mother! actress will be stepping into the role of the inventor turned possible inmate for Apple’s take on the story, many have already watched the drama unfold in Hulu’s The Dropout, which starred Amanda Seyfried as Holmes. Seeing as how McKay is backing Apple’s production, we’re thinking there will be more of a comedic undertone to the storyline.
Along with starring in Causeway, Jennifer Lawrence has also signed on to produce, a job she’ll be joined in by Excellent Cadaver’s Justine Ciarrocchi. Meanwhile, director Lila Neugebauer will executive produce. The film is backed by several studios including IAC Films, IPR. VC, Excellent Cadaver, and A24. A24 has had quite the year in dropping blockbuster hits with their critically acclaimed and fan obsessed multiverse hopping feature, Everything Everywhere All At Once landing on screens back in March and returning to theaters for encore performances right now.
As for Jennifer Lawrence, she’s sure to be the perfect choice for the upcoming Causeway. A talented actress in any genre she’s been dropped in, a heartfelt piece centered around the complex story of a woman returning to her home after war sounds like another place for the actresses’ skills to shine. As of right now, no release date has been revealed.
