Jenna Ortega Drops Exciting Info On Wednesday Season 2

Before taking the stage to pass the award along to Ali Wong, Ortega was asked about the future of her hit Netflix series Wednesday.

While speaking to Laverne Cox on the red carpet, Ortega stated that the show’s upcoming second season will contain more horror elements, and each episode will tell a contained story that feels like its own movie.

This is exciting news for fans of the young actress and her work, as it was recently announced that Jenna Ortega would not be returning to the Scream franchise as she had initially planned.

After Melissa Barrera was fired from the upcoming Scream 7 for making pro-Palestine and anti-genocide remarks on social media, Jenna Ortega departed the project, causing a flurry of rumors that her departure was political in nature.

In the following weeks, the film’s director Christopher Landon was fired from the movie, leaving some fans to assume that the franchise is dead in the water.

After she left Scream 7, reports circulated that Jenna Ortega was no longer part of the project due to her scheduling commitments to Wednesday season 2. Those had shifted due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes which halted production for much of 2023.

Luckily, the second season of the hit gothic series is still expected to arrive by the end of this year, with some schedules suggesting a November 2024 release.

Ortega took on a newfound role as executive producer for the show’s second season and beyond, meaning her involvement in the show is likely a great deal more hands-on now that it was in its first season.

While discussing the future of the Netflix original series on the Emmys red carpet, Ortega specified that one exciting element of the upcoming season is the constant variety of landscape, tone, and situational hijinks the show delivers, juxtaposed against Wednesday’s dour and demure attitude.

Jenna Ortega specifically praised some of the comedic one-liners she gets to deliver in the second season, which have been expertly crafted by the series’ writers.

The second season of Wednesday is expected to be much bigger in scope than the first, with Jenna Ortega teasing a lot of action and thrills.

With each episode expected to feel like its own feature film, fans can only hope that Tim Burton will return to provide his directorial efforts, helming the series with his trademarked blend of gothic horror and washed-out nihilism.

Though no official release date has been confirmed to the public, Wednesday season 2 is on track to begin shooting in Ireland in April.

Beyond that, Netflix has announced plans to produce a spinoff centered around Uncle Fester, as portrayed by Fred Armisen.

Jenna Ortega couldn’t provide any specific information about the spinoff series, though the actress expressed a great deal of excitement at the thought of returning to the gothic world of Wednesday this Spring.
