Jenna Ortega Wants Winona Ryder’s Best Role
Jenna Ortega wants to play Lydia Deetz in the Beetlejuice sequel.
With the much anticipated Scream VI now in theaters across the United States, fans may be able to look forward to another film by the Wednesday actress. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jenna Ortega has been eyeing a role in the upcoming Beetlejuice 2. Reportedly, the star could be taking on the role Winona Ryder is best known for: Lydia Deetz.
Jenna Ortega appearing in Beetlejuice 2 would not be too much of a stretch, even though, as of now, nothing has been confirmed. The film is set to be directed by Tim Burton, who also directed four episodes of the highly anticipated Netflix series Wednesday, which aired last year, launching Ortega’s fame to new heights. Jenna Ortega has been open about her time on the set of Wednesday and relished her time working with the legendary Tim Burton.
According to the actress, Tim Burton was a great director to work with, and she admires his extreme attention to detail. That could make Jenna Ortega’s appearance in the upcoming Beetlejuice 2 more likely. The original Beetlejuice was released back in 1988 and was met with critical acclaim.
The film, helmed by Tim Burton, had a star-studded cast that included Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Jeffrey Jones, Catherine O’Hara, and Winona Ryder. The original Beetlejuice was Winona Ryder’s breakout role and was filmed when she was just 15 years old. The actress starred as a goth teenager living in a home haunted by numerous ghosts.
Allegedly, Jenna Ortega could be taking Winona Ryder’s spot in the upcoming Beetlejuice 2. While Ryder’s original performance may be hard to top, Jenna Ortega would be the perfect actress to do it. After appearing recently in both Wednesday and Scream VI, the star has proven herself able to take on the dark and sinister on screen.
The actress has noted in the past that when she was younger she had recurring dreams about the film. For Jenna Ortega, being able to take on a role in Beetlejuice 2 would be coming full circle.
The movie, which has no set release date, has been in the works for years. Warner Bros has switched out writers on the script multiple times and taken it through several iterations. Anxious fans may finally be able to see the newest installment sometime soon, although no release date has been set yet.
Beetlejuice 2 will hopefully begin filming sometime in May or June of this year in London. However, with no budget set for the film, much is still up in the air. Fans can still hope that they may be able to see Jenna Ortega on the set of Beetlejuice 2 soon.
While not much has yet been shared about the upcoming installment, fans may be able to expect Micheal Keaton to reprise his role as the iconic Betelgeuse. While the film at the earliest may be released sometime in 2025, Jenna Ortega fans have plenty to enjoy even if the star does not end up in Beetlejuice 2.
In addition to the newly released Scream VI, Jenna Ortega will be returning for the second season of Wednesday and has signed onto a movie with The Weeknd.
