Wednesday and Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice star Jenna Ortega is reportedly in talks to join Glen Powell in the new J.J. Abrams mysterious cinematic project that’s currently in development at Warner Bros. Saying that we know next to nothing about the upcoming project isn’t an exaggeration, but it’s safe to say that Hollywood’s new A-listers are likely to bring all their star-power to the film that only has one detail known about its plot—according to J.J. Abrams, it won’t be a time travel movie.

Both Stars Know Their Way Around A Franchise

Both Jenna Ortega and Glen Powell know a thing or two about high-budgeted, high-profile releases, considering that the former spearheaded the latest Scream reboot—a franchise she’s no longer associated with—and the latter made a standout appearance in Top Gun: Maverick. The latest news suggests that both are still negotiating their deals to board J.J. Abrams’ still-untitled movie. This is rather exciting, considering that the pots sitting atop Warner Bros.’ proverbial stove are simmering delicious upcoming releases.

A Potential Movie

Some of those releases include Billy Summers, a Stephen King adaptation that also involves J.J. Abrams’ production company. Both Jenna Ortega and Glen Powell could fit well within this movie, primarily because the narrative centers around an American hitman forced to lead a double life.

In the novel, the eponymous character teams up with a young woman who has been dumped out of a truck onto the street and left for dead. Seems like a perfect match for two actors, but since it hasn’t been officially confirmed, this remains nothing but an interesting case of fan-casting.

Another Possibility

There’s also a possibility that Jenna Ortega, Glen Powell, and J.J. Abrams are cooking something entirely different, something that Abrams still hasn’t shared with the public. Whatever that may be, anything J.J. Abrams does outside of previously established IPs and franchises is highly and warmly welcome, especially following the rocky reception of The Rise of the Skywalker.

This is still a developing story, and while we wait for the actors to sign their deals and for Abrams to set up a filming schedule for his upcoming project, there are other releases to look forward to.

Glen Powell Is The Leading Man Of Today

Glen Powell is currently in theaters with a sequel to Bill Paxton’s movies from 1996, Twisters, which has grossed more than $280 million at the global box office (thus far). He’s currently set to appear in The Running Man, a reinterpretation of a dystopian thriller novel by Stephen King—which was previously adapted in 1987 into an action movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger in a lead role.

Jenna Ortega Is The Biggest Scream Queen Today

Jenna Ortega, on the other hand, is set to appear in a Beetlejuice sequel and is hard at work on Wednesday Season 2. J.J. Abrams seems the busiest of the bunch, with 18 projects in development.

Some of those projects include the highly anticipated Constantine 2, Half-Life, Portal, and an untitled Star Trek prequel. Sadly, none of those movies mention Jenna Ortega and Glen Powell, so the mysterious project remains just that—a pre-production project we’re likely to hear more about in the future.
