Jenna Ortega Teams With Amy Adams And We Can’t Wait
Jenna Ortega and Amy Adams will be teaming up to star in the upcoming dystopian science-fiction film, Klara and the Sun. The film, which is an adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s novel of the same name, will beproduced by Sony 3000 and executive produced by Ishiguro under the direction of Taika Waititi (Thor: Love and Thunder). Though the film is still very much in the pre-production phases, this casting announcement indicates that the project is moving forward in the best kind of way.
The Characters
Klara and the Sun is Ishiguro’s eighth novel, and takes place place in the not-so-distant future. Told from the perspective of Klara (Jenna Ortega), the novel focuses on the relationship between the titular solar-powered artificial friend (AF) and its genetically engineered human counterpart, Josie. Amy Adams will be taking on the role of Josie’s mother and caretaker, who is prone to bouts of anger and depression which leads her to be dismissive towards Klara.
Screenplay From Mad Men Writer
The screenplay for the Jenna Ortega and Amy Adams-starring film was written by Dahvi Waller, whose writing credits include episodes of Desperate Housewives, Eli Stone, and Mad Men. As of this writing, there is no set release date for the upcoming film. Ortega’s involvement was first announced by The InSneider First, and Adams’ involvement was announced by Deadline earlier this week.
Jenna Ortega’s Upcoming Projects
Jenna Ortega’s current release slate on the cinematic front boasts numerous titles, including the long-awaited and highly anticipated Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Death of a Unicorn, a yet-to-be-titled Trey Edward Shults film, and Winter Spring Summer or Fall. While all of these projects are currently in the post-production phases and gearing up for their theatrical releases, Ortega will be busy filming season 2 of Netflix’s Wednesday this coming spring. Amy Adams will be starring in Nightbitch, an upcoming comedy horror film that will by released by Hulu later this year.
Jenna Ortega Will Make A Good Robot
It will be interesting to see Jenna Ortega taking on the role of a solar powered robot who demonstrates an intimidating amount of observational and imitation skills despite her limited knowledge of the world. But given her dramatic and comedic range, it’s safe to say that she’ll be a perfect fit for the part. Amy Adams’ character, simply known as mother in the novel, will find herself in morally grey territory as she tries to integrate her sickly daughter into an AF body of her own that will allow her consciousness to live on if her physical body dies.
Like most dystopian science fiction properties, we’ll be provided with a unique perspective on how robots and humans can coexist in society.
