The Walking Dead is a show that is going to seemingly continue for the foreseeable future. During San Diego Comic-Con, a panel introduced the world to the cast of Isle of the Dead. This new spinoff series stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan. Negan and Maggie will be traveling with one another in post-apocalyptic New York following the events of the series finale of the original show. Now, some of the newest cast for the series have been revealed. You can see the announcement below:
Joining Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Laura Cohan are Mahina Napoleon, Zeljko Ivanek, and Johnathan Higginbotham. Mahina is coming from a recent stint on the NCIS: Hawai’i. Zeljko Ivanek has appeared in several films and television shows. His most recent film was starring as Le Coq in The Last Duel. He more recently appeared in Now and Then and is set to star in a series adaptation of Let the Right One In. Johnathan Higginbotham recently had a stint on the STARZ series, Shining Vale. All three of the above cast members should fit in quite nicely.
Isle of the Dead is based in New York, which has now been cut off from the mainland. Naturally, there are a ton of zombies that have now made this island their home, and Maggie and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) must find a way to survive being bitten and the crazed individuals who are also trying to survive. The show will serve as one of three spinoffs that feature original cast members. An untitled spinoff featuring Daryl is being worked on. Also, just announced at San Diego Comic-Con is a new series that will bring back the series favorite Andrew Lincoln as Rick. Rick and Michonne will lead that new series. The initial plan had been rumored films that would follow Rick after he exited the main series, but those might be on hold for now. However, the character will be returning in this new series.
The Walking Dead began in 2010 and has since become a cultural phenomenon. The main series is set to end when The Walking Dead: The Final Episodes air on AMC and AMC+ in October. Fear the Walking Dead was the first spinoff that branched off from the main series and has lasted seven seasons already. The eighth season is also currently being worked on. Jeffrey Dean Morgan became a fan-favorite character when he appeared as Negan in the original series, despite the character’s proclivity for violence. Now, he is set to return alongside Maggie for Isle of the Dead.
Isle of the Dead is currently in production and has a 2023 release date designation. We are not sure when the series will premiere, but we can presume it will be sometime in the fall of next year. Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Laura Cohan return to reprise their roles as Negan and Maggie. Joining them are Mahina Napoleon, Zeljko Ivanek, and Johnathan Higginbotham, who have been stated to be important characters in the overall story taking place in New York. We can’t wait to see this new series.
