Jeff Goldblum Brings Kaos To Netflix
Kaos is the new Netflix drama that explores the lives of the gods from ancient Greece in a modern retelling where Jeff Goldblum is Zeus, and he’s a paranoid deity with a taste for destruction. The series, created by Charlie Covell, who also wrote The End of the F*cking World, as Zeus discovers a wrinkle on his forehead that could foreshadow an apocalypse. Humankind will be tasked with preventing their own annihilation at the hands of a tracksuit-clad Zeus in this dark comedy.

The trailer for Kaos reveals a war between humanity and the gods, as Zeus becomes ever more preoccupied with the specter of his own downfall, and the mortal inhabitants of Earth defy him. Jeff Goldblum portrays a vengeful and petty god who is delighted by the terror he can rain down from above, mapping out his assault on humanity with a bulletin board of carnage and gleefully clicking through news reports of the devastation he has wrought. Humankind has realized that the gods don’t care what happens to them, and they need to fight back, but their rebellion comes at a price.
The series finally has a release date and a trailer after Jeff Goldblum stepped into the role of Zeus in Kaos, which will be available on Netflix on August 29.
The series creator, Charlie Covell, chose a modern retelling of the Greek myths because it draws on timeless themes of power and dysfunction. Jeff Goldblum brings the over-the-top violence necessary to Zeus in Kaos, while Cliff Curtis is a swim-trunk-wearing, yacht-dwelling Poseidon, and Janet McTeer is Hera, queen of the gods and Zeus’s less-than-loyal wife. Covell placed the characters in a modern setting to create a contrast between the ordinary world and the extraordinary Mount Olympus, where the gods reside.
While he might not have been the original choice, having Jeff Goldblum play Zeus for Kaos couldn’t be a better fit.
The character Zeus was originally meant to be played by Hugh Grant, but he left the project due to scheduling conflicts. Jeff Goldblum read the script for Kaos and was immediately inspired to take on the role for its emotional and hilarious content. Goldblum says most of his motivation for the character came from his imagination and from the dark recesses of his own mind and was not based on any historical or contemporary figures.
While he might not have been the original choice, having Jeff Goldblum play Zeus for Kaos couldn’t be a better fit. Known for his playful arch delivery and ability to play a deadpan villain, Goldblum can bring a supervillain aura to Zeus. Goldblum’s ability to connect with an audience while also being a complete psychopath will definitely make his character engaging and wrathful, and I can’t wait to see him portray the slow mental breakdown of a tyrannical deity.
While the series began development in 2015, there were delays in getting the project finished due to the departure of Hugh Grant, COVID-19, and the Hollywood strikes. Audiences who were following the project waited patiently for a release date as filming and editing continued into the first part of this year. The series finally has a release date and a trailer after Jeff Goldblum stepped into the role of Zeus in Kaos, which will be available on Netflix on August 29.
