Jeff Bridges Shares Change In Scary Health Crisis
Jeff Bridges' cancerous tumor has shrunk in size since his initial 2021 announcement.
Even cancer can’t keep The Dude down. Deadline recently reported that Iron Man and The Big Lebowski star Jeff Bridges’ update on his 2021 cancer diagnosis, and his previously 9-12 inch tumor has “shrunk to the size of a marble,” according to the man himself. Hopefully, his diagnosis will stay positive, and Bridges will feel ready and ready to go once filming on Season 2 of his FX series The Old Man picks back up.
Jeff Bridges was previously diagnosed with cancer at the beginning of 2021 and underwent chemotherapy in January. Unfounrtatly, his immune system was compromised, and he also contracted a severe case of COVID-19. This was a significant health scare for the 73-year-old actor, but he, fortunately, pulled through and survived his COVID scare.
Most recently, Jeff Bridges starred in the FX series The Old Man, which aired its first season in 2022. The series, which is adapted from the bestselling Thomas Perry book, follows Dan Chase (Bridges) as he is targeted by an assassin years after he left the CIA and started living off the grid. The series also stars John Lithgow, Amy Brenneman, Alia Shawkat, E.J. Bonilla, Gbenga Akinnagbe, Bill Heck, Leem Lubany, and Pej Vahdat.
Filming of the second season of Jeff Bridges’ The Old Man was suspended in the wake of the ongoing Writer’s Guild of America strike. While five episodes of the show had been written before the strike began, they were only able to complete filming on the first four episodes since the fifth episode reportedly needs rewrites. Production will likely be wrapped until the WGA strike is over.
Jonathan E. Steinberg and Robert Levine created The Old Man, which was the most-watched cable series premiere since 2021. The star power of Jeff Bridges no doubt helped to launch those numbers up. Unsurprisingly, the series is getting a second season, but it remains unclear when exactly we might see that season now.
Jeff Bridges is best known for his work in the Coen Brothers’ masterpiece The Big Lebowski as the affable The Dude, his role in Tron and Tron: Legacy as Kevin Flynn/Clu, his role in Crazy Heart as Bad Blake, and his turn as Rooster Cogburn in the Coen Brothers remake of True Grit. Of course, Bridges also helped to kick off the MCU as one of the original big bads when he played Obadiah Stane in Iron Man. Lately, we haven’t seen too many movie roles from Bridges, but hopefully, that will change now that he’s in better health and better spirits.
In fact, the last time we saw Jeff Bridges in a movie was in 2018’s Bad Times at the El Royale and 2017’s Kingsman: The Golden Circle before that. Fortunately, we’re getting new material from Bridges in the form of his FX series, but it would definitely be great to see him in a full-fledged movie role again. We’ll have to wait and see if he has any new projects planned for the future while we look forward to his return in The Old Man.
