Jeff Bridges Receiving An Incredibly Prestigious Award
The 28th annual Critics Choice Awards is set to take place at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles on Sunday, January 15, and according to The Hollywood Reporter, Jeff Bridges will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award. The 73-year-old icon previously won a Critics Choice Award for his turn in the 2009 drama Crazy Heart. The announcement comes two years after he was diagnosed with lymphoma, which is a form of cancer.
Jeff Bridges currently stars in the FX drama series The Old Man, which premiered June 16. After receiving stellar reviews and pulling in strong viewership, the network renewed the show after just three episodes. The first season consists of seven episodes, with the finale airing July 21.
In the series, Jeff Bridges plays Dan Chase, a retired CIA agent who is hunted by both the agency he once worked for and his own nightmares, when an unknown man suddenly visits him after nearly three decades. John Lithgow, E.J. Bonilla, Bill Heck, Amy Brenneman, and Alia Shawkat also star in the show, which was created by Robert Levine and Jonathan E. Steinberg. FX has yet to announce a premiere date for Season 2.
The Old Man marks the first role for Jeff Bridges following his battle with cancer. Before that, the actor hadn’t had an on-screen role since 2018’s Bad Times at the El Royale. Although he initially hesitant to do television work, Bridges took the part in the FX drama after seeing the quality content being released on the small screen these days.
Following his lymphoma diagnosis in October 2020, Jeff Bridges wasn’t sure he’d ever actor again. Fortunately, after undergoing a series of chemo treatments, the Tron actor announced just one year later that his cancer was in remission. Now, not only does he star on one of the most acclaimed shows on television, but he told Variety during a recent interview that he doesn’t intend to retire anytime in the foreseeable future.
Since 1951, Jeff Bridges has amassed over 90 acting credits, and he’s received several awards throughout his career. In 2009, he won an Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance as an alcoholic musician in the Scott Cooper-directed drama Crazy Heart. He was also nominated for an Oscar for his turn in Joel and Ethan Coen’s 2010 remake True Grit.
Some of the actor’s other notable roles include Hell or High Water, Iron Man, King Kong, and Arlington Road. Behind the scenes, Jeff Bridges has produced multiple projects including The Giver, Living in the Future’s Past, and his TV series The Old Man. Although he doesn’t have any projects in development aside from the forthcoming second season of his hit FX show, we’re glad to see the renowned actor back in the spotlight after his health scare.
The Critics Choice Awards will air on January 15 on The CW, where Jeff Bridges will receive the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award. The show will be executive produced by Bob Bain Productions and Berlin Entertainment. Nominations in the TV categories will be announced Tuesday, December 6.
