Jason Statham has more than earned his reputation as an action hero lead. It might be fair to say that the majority of his filmography is made up of action movies. From blockbuster fare like The Meg and the Fast & Furious movies to nuttier fare like Crank and Crank: High Voltage, the actor is well-versed in the genre of action movies. And he also owes some of his popularity to director Guy Ritchie. Statham starred in Ritchie’s first two films, Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch, and his performances in those movies helped launch him into stardom. And now, the two are teaming together once again for a brand new movie that looks even more violent than their previous works.
Jason Statham stars in Wrath of Man, an interesting riff on the classic revenge movie. Check out the trailer right here:
The story centers around a man known simply as H (Jason Statham), a mysterious figure that works for a money-transfer company in Los Angeles. As you can see in the trailer, his truck gets robbed but it looks like H is more than prepared. He easily dispatches the robbers with cold precision. And it looks like he is actually hoping for his truck to get robbed. Now, why would he want to do that? Well, it turns out that some bandits killed his son at some point in the past, and now H is on the hunt for them. So it looks like Jason Statham’s H is actually helping these crooks get to a heist on the truck before he takes them all out.
Jason Statham looks like he will be bringing his expected level of collected badass attitude to Wrath of Man. And it certainly looks like he will be going for a John Wick-level body count. He deftly murders quite a few folks in this trailer, including none other than Post Malone. So, if your greatest wish has been to see Post Malone get a bullet in his head, it looks like Wrath of Man is going to satisfying that oddly specific desire. You’ll also get to see turns from actors like Scott Eastwood, Josh Hartnett, and the always welcome Holt McCallany.
And it looks like Jason Statham is going to stay plenty busy after Wrath of Man. He is listed to work once again with Guy Ritchie on an untitled film and has been announced to return for a sequel to the Melissa McCarthy comedy Spy. And who knows what else will be in store for the action hero? If you are a big fan of the kind of fare Statham has become known for, it looks like Wrath of Man will be right up your alley. The film is set to have a theatrical release on May 7. Will theaters be back up and running by then? And will audiences feel compelled to go see a movie like Wrath of Man at the theater? We will simply have to wait and see.
