Jason Statham’s Long-Delayed Spy Film Finally On The Way?
Guy Ritchie has provided an update about his upcoming movie, Operation Fortune: Ruse De Guerre. The film, starring Jason Statham, was abruptly removed from the STX Entertainment release schedule shortly before its debut. Fortunately, fans won’t have to wait too much longer to see the action comedy. Speaking to Deadline, the director said the project will be rolled out in different countries beginning in January 2023.
“It starts to unfurl in different territories from January,” the filmmaker told the publication about the Jason Statham vehicle. “Some are theatrical, some are not. That’s my understanding.” Guy Ritchie made the revelation during a brief guest appearance at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The event was a small detour for the director who is currently working on the Netflix series The Gentlemen in London.
Meanwhile, the Jason Statham action-comedy will most likely receive a streaming release in the United States. A previous report by Deadline said there have been discussions between Miramax, Lionsgate, and STX about its domestic distribution and a theatrical launch was initially the plan. But following its downsizing, the company could no longer fulfill that obligation. According to sources close to the situation, Miramax is ultimately seeking a high-dollar U.S. streaming deal.
Directed by Guy Ritchie, from a script he co-wrote with Ivan Atkinson and Marn Davies, Operation Fortune: Ruse De Guerre follows super spy, Orson Fortune (Jason Statham) and his team who recruit Hollywood’s biggest movie star for an undercover mission to stop a powerful arms broker from selling deadly weapons technology that threatens world safety.
The movie features a stellar cast alongside Jason Statham as Orson Fortune. This includes Aubrey Plaza as Sarah Fidel, Josh Hartnett as Danny Francesco, Hugh Grant as Greg Simmonds, and Cary Elwes as Nathan Jasmine. Operation Fortune: Ruse De Guerre also stars Bugzy Malone as J.J., Lourdes Faberes as Emilia, Max Beesley as Ben Harris, Eddie Marsan as Knighton, and Kaan Urgancıoğlu as Casa.
Away from the Guy Ritchie movie, Jason Statham has been working on several other projects. He stars as Jonas Taylor in the upcoming science fiction action film, Meg 2: The Trench. Directed by Ben Wheatley from a screenplay by Dean Georgaris, Jon Hoeber, and Erich Hoeber, the movie is based on Steve Alten’s 1999 book The Trench. Serving as a sequel to the 2018 film, the film also features Sienna Guillory and Cliff Curtis. It is scheduled for release on August 4, 2023.
Along with Fast X and The Expendables 4, Jason Statham will also appear in The Beekeeper. Directed by David Ayer from a script by Kurt Wimmer, production is currently underway in the United Kingdom. The story follows one man’s brutal campaign for vengeance which takes on national stakes after he is revealed to be a former operative of a powerful and clandestine organization known as the Beekeepers.
According to Deadline, Jeremy Irons, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Bobby Naderi, and Josh Hutcherson, have joined Jason Statham in action-thriller. The movie is produced by Bill Block for Miramax, Chris Long for Cedar Park Studios, Kurt Wimmer, and Statham.
