Jason Statham’s Long-Delayed Blockbuster Just Got Some Awesome News
Jason Statham's Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre will be released on March 3rd.
While everyone is patiently waiting for Jason Statham to return for The Meg 2, his more anticipated blockbuster has been given a release date. That blockbuster is the new Statham and Guy Ritchie team-up, Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre. The release date was given right along with a brand-new trailer, which you can see below:
While everyone is certainly used to seeing Jason Statham in espionage and shoot-em-up roles, he is being joined by perennial funny woman, Aubrey Plaza. Also joining the fan-favorite actor is Josh Hartnett, Cary Elwes, and Hugh Grant. The movie follows Danny Francesco, who is being forced into pretending to take on a role as an eccentric billionaire, and he must shadow Hugh Grant’s Greg Simmonds to learn more about how to be a billionaire.
However, Francesco’s real goal is to get close enough to Simmonds to discover where a device known as “The Handle” is being hidden before Simmonds sells it to the highest bidder. Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre seems to be following the same type of genre that Ritchie’s last film was, as The Gentlemen was also a crime thriller that had plenty of comedy to go along with its action. Grant also had a starring role in The Gentlemen, and he will now be hunted by Jason Statham.
Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre was originally meant to be released in January of 2022, but had been delayed to March of that year. However, once the Russo-Ukrainian War broke out, the movie was removed from the release schedule because of how the Ukrainian villains were portrayed. We are not sure if that issue has been addressed, but the film is now going to see its release in March, with Jason Statham leading the pack.
Guy Ritchie has certainly been broadening his horizons lately, as his more recent offerings have been adding even more humor than previous entries. Honestly, we are here for it, as The Gentlemen was a fantastic feature, with an equally impressive cast that included Hugh Grant, Charlie Hunnam, and Matthew McConaughey. Jason Statham and Aubrey Plaza look to be like a winning combo, as her sarcastic humor certainly lines up well with Statham’s drier facade.
Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre has already been released internationally, and the Jason Statham-led action comedy is currently sitting at a 65 percent critic approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. That is with the current number of 23 reviewers, which might change when the movie is released stateside early next month. We don’t want to speak for everyone, but Statham is quite a big draw for the American crowd.
Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre will officially release in theaters on March 3 and will see Jason Statham and Hugh Grant reunite with director Guy Ritchie. Eddie Marsan is also in the film, as he has been paired with Ritchie more recently in Wrath of Man, The Gentlemen, and the Sherlock Holmes entries. We can’t wait to see this movie with Statham back in action, and especially because Aubrey Plaza is funny in anything she appears in.
