Jason Momoa see

Chances are pretty low we’ll ever get to see a live action throw down between Jason Momoa’s Aquaman and Dave Bautista’s Drax the Destroyer. But if you want the next best thing, there’s always the brand new trailer for Season 2 of Apple TV’s See.

Here’s a taste of their throwdown…

One of Apple TV’s first original series offerings to its subscribers, See is a dystopian sci-fi drama set in a version of the 21st century in which only a fraction of humanity survives a deadly virus, and all those survivors have lost the gift of sight. Technologically, most survivors are thrown back to pre-industrial times. Jason Momoa stars as Baba Voss, chief of the Alkenny tribe. Baba Voss finds his people under siege in Season 1 of See when the fanatical Queen Kane (Sylvia Hoeks) discovers the biological children “cursed” with sight are living with the Alkenny people. After quite a lot of blood and gore, Season 1 of See concludes with — among other things — Baba’s sighted daughter Haniwa becoming a captive of Baba’s estranged brother Edo.

It’s Edo that Dave Bautista will be playing in Season 2 of Jason Momoa’s See, as shown in the thrilling trailer above. Set to a haunting cover of the Rolling Stones’ “Ruby Tuesday,” the trailer opens to Edo’s narration, making it clear there is no love lost between the Voss brothers. Edo says that everyone around See‘s hero “always ends up suffering.” He follows it up with the promise “now it’s your turn, brother.” The trailer gives us shots of the ruins of a what appears to be a long-dead major metropolitan city, and exciting shots of battle scenes between clashing armies.

Though the trailer doesn’t give us a lot of shots of Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista’s characters squaring off against each other, it’s clearly bound to happen. While most shots of the warring brothers show them battling other, anonymous enemies, at about the 2:10 mark in the trailer Baba and Edo face off on a bridge. Earlier, we see Edo standing behind a captive Baba, who appears to have been tortured. The preview also shows the return of Alfre Woodard as the Alkenny elder Paris and Nesta Cooper as Baba’s daughter Haniwa.

While the inaugural season of Jason Momoa’s See was panned by critics — earning an abysmal 43% on Rotten Tomatoes — apparently both audiences and Apple TV have more faith in the dystopian saga. As reported by Deadline, the announcement that Apple TV was renewing See for a third season was announced on the June 10 episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, even though Season 2 had yet to begin streaming.

Stargate: Atlantis fans may have a pretty great reason to tune in to See‘s second season, by the way. Last October, it was revealed Joe Flanigan — who played John Sheppard on Atlantis — was on his way to Toronto as part of the cast of See. Jason Momoa was Flanigan’s co-star on Atlantis, as the alien Ronon Dex. However, Flanigan’s IMDb page does not list See as part of his credits, so we may have to wait until the season releases on Apple TV on Friday, August 27 to see if he’s in the cast with Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista.
