Jason Momoa Became An Actor Thanks To Boba Fett
Jason Momoa will be reuniting with Temuera Morrison (Book of Boba Fett) in the upcoming Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom this coming December. Though they’ve worked together on the first Aquaman film, it was recently revealed that Morrison had a profound influence on Momoa when he was just 15 years old. During a recent panel hosted by Collider‘s Arezou Amin at the 2023 San Francisco FAN EXPO, Morrison revealed that his 1994 movie, Once Were Warriors, was Momoa’s inspiration to get into acting.
Once Were Warriors Made Jason Momoa Want To Become An Actor
Though Morrison is most known for portraying Boba Fett across a number of Star Wars properties, it was his contribution to Once Were Warriors that ignited the fire within Jason Momoa to pursue his own film career. During the panel, Morrison mentioned that he overheard his co-star telling his kids that watching the intense and tragic drama film made him want to become an actor.
It goes without saying that Morrison’s portrayal of Boba Fett is iconic in its own right, but his role as Jake Heke, a volatile father figure who tears his family apart though acts of abuse, had a profound impact on Momoa when he was just a teenager.
Working With His Hero
It’s inspiring to think that Temuera Morrison and Jason Momoa have been working alongside one another portraying a father (Tom Curry) and son (Aquaman) when you consider the context of their relationship. It must be absolutely thrilling for Momoa to work alongside one of his heroes, and it’s clear that both stars nothing but respect for each other. It’s almost as if the student caught up with his master, and they’re now both enjoying the fruits of their labor while sharing both a friendship and working relationship.
Momoa And Morrison Reunite In Aquaman 2
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is slated for a December 22, 2023 release, and will mark the end of the DCEU as we know it before the entire franchise gets rebooted by James Gunn and Peter Safran. Given the current box office projections, it’s not likely that we’ll see another Aquaman movie after the upcoming sequel.
But that doesn’t mean Jason Momoa is finished working with DC Studios by any stretch of the imagination.
Jason Momoa As Lobo
Rumor has it that Jason Momoa will eventually be cast as Lobo, a bounty hunter from the planet Czarnia, rather than reprising his role as Aquaman anytime soon. Considering that Momoa was inspired by the man who’s most well-known for portraying the most badass bounty hunter in the Star Wars universe, it’s only fitting that he’s indirectly following in the footsteps of one of his heroes if the rumors turn out to be true. Though this course of events is probably coincidental, we can’t help but wonder if Momoa and Morrison will keep in touch and talk shop.
Is The Aquaman Franchise Finished For Good?
2018’s Aquaman marked the beginning of Jason Momoa’s and Temuera Morrison’s working relationship. The film was a high-water mark for the DCEU, earning $1.15 billion globally, making it the highest-grossing film based on a DC comic. If past work is any indication of future performance, we can only hope that Lost Kingdom will prove the current projections wrong, but we’ll just have to wait until opening weekend to see how it performs.
