Jared Leto was reportedly up to his old tricks on the set of Tron: Ares as his co-star, Jeff Bridges, revealed the actor once again went full method for his upcoming film appearance. While speaking with Rob Lowe on Lowe’s podcast, the legendary Bridges recalled asking those involved with the movie what Leto was like, as the pair hadn’t met before filming. The person’s response won’t shock anyone who knows Leto’s reputation on sets, as they said, “‘He’s all right. You know, we call him Ares, you know, so he goes by his name.’”

The Bridges Vs. Leto Acting Approach

It isn’t fully clear if Jeff Bridges was taken aback at all by Jared Leto’s request on the set of Tron: Ares, as the ever-cool actor says that he took it all in and responded with a laidback, “‘Oh, that’s interesting.’” Interesting indeed, Mr. Bridges. Lowe and Bridges went on to discuss the difference in their approach to the craft, both saying that they only play the roles when the director yells “action,” slipping into regular conversation moments before and directly after.

Enjoyed Working Together

If you’re wondering how it went after the two actors met, it sounds like Jeff Bridges and Jared Leto fully got along while working with one another on the set of Tron: Ares. Honoring his co-star’s request but putting his own little spin on it, Bridges said that upon their first meeting, he asked, “‘Is it OK if I call you Air?’” In response, Leto said, “‘Yeah, sure you can’” and the pair kicked off what would be a successful filming experience. “Then we got loose, and it was just wonderful,” Bridges said – another testament to his cool and calm demeanor.

Method Acting To The Extreme

Of course, so many of us know the lore of Jared Leto acting like a total tool on the set of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad where he essentially tortured his co-stars with his method acting. Bridges said that he was fully aware of this chapter from Leto’s career as he had “a friend who played [Jared Leto’s] best friend,” adding that his pal told him, “He was Mr. J the whole time.”

Other stories that spawned from the set of Ayer’s film are straight nightmare fuel, with the actor allegedly sending his fellow performers unhinged “gifts.” Obviously, Jared Leto’s character in Tron: Ares is much different from Joker, meaning that Bridges didn’t have to fear for his mental health quite as much.

Tron: Ares

Beyond his character’s name, we know that Jared Leto will play a computer program in Tron: Ares, that takes its leave from the digital world and moves into the real world where he’ll be the reason behind the meeting of AI and humankind.

During his conversation with Lowe, Bridges also revealed that Ares is some sort of rockstar, which we aren’t fully convinced wasn’t a script suggestion by Leto himself. As the singer of Thirty Seconds to Mars, we know that Leto has a love for stage performance so it’s a total possibility that the character was built to reflect that.

Releasing October 2025

Whereas in the last two films, 2010’s Tron: Legacy and the movie that started it all, 1992’s Tron, the hero goes into the digital world from the real world, this movie will be the exact opposite which is intriguing all on its own.

Along with Jared Leto and Jeff Bridges, the Joachim Ronning-helmed Tron: Ares will also feature powerhouse performances from a cast that includes Greta Lee (The Morning Show), Evan Peters (American Horror Story), Hasan Minhaj (The Daily Show), Gillian Anderson (The X Files), Jodie Turner-Smith (The Acolyte), and more.
