Jamie Lee Curtis Returning For Long-Awaited Fan-Favorite Sequel
The hype continues for a Freaky Friday reboot as Lindsay Lohan is keeping the dream alive after revealing that she and her ex-co-star, Jamie Lee Curtis, “talk almost every other day” about the project and their lives. The pair have remained close since the film landed in theaters over two decades ago and, thanks to a renewed interest on both sides of the fandom and the creative team, the movie is slated to be receiving a next chapter.
While details are being kept under wraps, Lohan did reveal that the ball is rolling, saying that the production is “in the process,” although she didn’t spill any more tea when it comes to a release date or even a script.
Lindsay Lohan And Jamie Lee Curtis Are Exctited About The Sequel
Grateful to jump back on a set alongside Jamie Lee Curtis, Lindsay Lohan says that she’s “excited” for the opportunity to continue the story and to “see how much further we can take it.” With their off-screen bond bubbling over into their work, the Freaky Friday sequel will be filled with plenty of chemistry between the on-screen mother and daughter-duo.
A Modern Day Twist On A Favorite Story
Dropping into theaters in 2003, Freaky Friday served as the third adaptation of Mary Rodgers’s 1972 novel of the same name. Picking up speed and pulling the beloved novel into the 21st century, the Mark Waters-helmed movie starred Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan as a mother and daughter, respectively, who swap bodies after a run-in with a magical Chinese fortune cookie. A body swap classic, Freaky Friday is one of the best titles in the genre – right up there with fellow legend, Face/Off.
Rumors Of The Sequel Swirled For A Long Time
Conversations and rumors surrounding a Freaky Friday sequel have been abundant since Jamie Lee Curtis teased the possibility last year. Reboots, reimaginings, and follow-ups have been all the rage in the entertainment industry as of late, and with a following like that of the 2003 teen movie, it would be a waste of money and resources to not put an updated spin on Freaky Friday. With both Curtis and Lohan on board, we’d love to see what the pair have been up to over the last 20 years and what kind of mischief they’ll get into next.
Lindsay Lohan Is Ready For A Renaissance
After leaving the paparazzi and rumor mill behind in 2014, Lindsay Lohan dipped out of the public eye and moved to Dubai, where she still resides with her husband and child. Finally having some time to breathe without constantly being on the front page of a tabloid, Lohan made her grand return to Hollywood with the Netflix holiday-themed rom-com, Falling for Christmas.
Now that she’s back in the flow, enjoying an overall deal with Netflix, it seems like the iron is hot enough for Lohan to strike a major production with her old friend Jamie Lee Curtis.
Jamie Lee Curtis In Her Prime
As for Jamie Lee Curtis, the last few years have been overly successful for her as she nabbed an Academy Award for her work in Everything Everywhere All at Once. Just like she’d be doing in Freaky Friday 2, Curtis reprised her role (allegedly for the final time) as the fan-favorite final girl, Laurie Strode, in David Gordon Green’s Halloween trilogy. Up next, she’ll be spotted alongside an impressive cast of characters in Eli Roth’s Borderlands which is due out on August 9.
