James Gunn Returning For More DC Movies?
James Gunn has responded about his future involvement with DC.

James Gunn has become quite the busy filmmaker. Two DC and two Marvel projects are in the pipeline for him. After answering a fan question on Twitter, he has revealed that he has had conversations about doing more with DC.
For now, James Gunn will be coming out with two DC projects with a movie and a TV show to come through the next year. The Suicide Squad releases in theaters and on HBO Max next week (August 6). One of the stars in the ensemble supervillain movie, John Cena (F9), will have his own series for his character Peacemaker. It is currently scheduled to release on HBO Max sometime in January 2022.
The replies to James Gunn for this tweet were flooded with ideas. One of the most recurring suggestions was Gotham City Sirens. The comic run was written by Paul Dini and illustrated by Guillem March between 2009 and 2011. It followed Catwoman, Poison Ivy, and Harley Quinn on various adventures. A film is already in the works from David Ayer, who did 2016’s Suicide Squad, which as of recently said the film is “on pause.”
The tweet lines up with what James Gunn has said earlier this year. Back in April, he said that there is “more on the horizon” when talking about working with DC again.
What James Gunn could work on for DC could be an endless list. The filmmaker was given complete freedom for his take on Suicide Squad with any character he wanted and allowing him to make it rated R. He recently told Screen Rant that his next DC movie is something that “not what anybody would expect.” That sounds fitting as he has been vocal for years about his love for comic books, and with the obscure characters used for his upcoming DC movie and his work with Marvel, he must be cooking something that will surprise everyone whenever it sees the light of day.
In the meantime, we have to wait for his schedule to clear up. James Gunn told Collider that he does not like to stack projects on top of one another. He prefers to do what he did with The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker by making the plan and immediately working on it.
In the same interview, James Gunn went on to talk about TV storytelling. The extra time allows for more character depth and able to have a scene(s) that are fun without moving the story. He has been vocal about how after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 that he might focus on TV shows rather than movies. Regardless of what he does with DC, this could be a part of those conversations he has been having with the company.
