James Gunn Reveals DCU Architects In Illuminating Photo
Although he’s moved away from Twitter, James Gunn is still eager to keep fans on the forefront of what’s going on behind the scenes of the DCU – and his life. Taking to Threads to share some highlights of the last year, Gunn posted a handful of pictures that capture his life the best. Tucked into the lineup was a fresh shot of Gunn alongside the rest of he and Peter Safran’s stacked team at DC Studios.
James Gunn Reveals DC Team
While we’ve long known that James Gunn and Peter Safran have joined forces to be the new co-leaders of the DCU, the image revealed who the rest of the architects are.
Included in the welcome image were both Safran and Gunn posed alongside Executive Vice President of Production Chantal Nong Vo, Jeremy Slater, Christina Hodson, Drew Goddard, Christal Henry, Tom King, and Vice President of Creative Development Galen Vaisman.
DCU Pivot
Assembling his very own version of the Justice League, James Gunn and the rest of his co-workers have their hands full as the DCEU drops a letter and pivots back to DCU.
After a crippling year at the box office that saw incredibly low numbers for DC and Warner Bros., all eyes are on this creative group as they form the new vision moving forward.
DCEU Movies Didn’t Stand A Chance
2023 kicked off with Shazam! Fury of the Gods and wrapped with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom with the underperforming titles The Flash and Blue Beetle wedged in between.
Aside from The Flash, none of the other films really stood a chance after it was announced that James Gunn and Peter Safran would be taking over the DCU at the end of 2022.
While 2022 saw titles like Black Adam underperform, the reveal that – despite the films set to arrive in 2023 – the studio would be moving in a different direction, pitted the last four titles against a slew of challenges.
Superman: Legacy Is Next
Now that Aquaman 2 is rounding out its time in cinemas, the next project from the comic universe, Joker: Folie á Deux is slated to arrive in October of this year.
Beyond that one-off film that doesn’t have full ties to the DCEU of yesteryear nor James Gunn’s rebranding of the DCU, it will be all engines blazing on Gunn, Safran, and the rest of the team’s vision.
But audiences will need to stay tuned until July 2025 for the first motion picture event to come from the new collaboration. That’s when Superman: Legacy will take flight.
DC Chapter 1: Gods And Monsters
Dubbed Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters, James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU will include a mixture of movies and shows such as The Authority, The Brave and the Bold, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and Swamp Thing.
There’s also the banner of Elseworlds which will blanket projects like Matt Reeves’s The Batman 2 and the aforementioned Joker: Folie á Deux.
James Gunn And DC
Judging by James Gunn’s gallery of images, the filmmaker and writer has had a wonderful year spent with family, friends, and the minds behind the DCU.
But, before fully diving into DC Studios, Gunn had to wrap up his work with Marvel in 2023’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
Several of the pictures reveal just how near and dear his last foray with the cosmic crew was as viewers can catch behind-the-scenes glimpses of Gunn along with his brother, Sean Gunn, and fellow stars Chris Pratt, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, and Chukwudi Iwuji
