Jake Gyllenhaal is all set to portray ex-UFC fighter Elwood Dalton in the forthcoming reboot of the classic 80s film Road House, and he has the ripped physique to prove it. The Oscar-nominated actor recently shot a scene for the movie at a UFC event at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. In footage taken from the event and subsequently uploaded to the official Twitter account of MMA Junkie, the Life star shows off his intimidating new figure while flexing for onlookers.

During the staged weigh-in, the actor draws loud cheers from the massive crowd. After an announcer calls out his official weight of 184.5 pounds, Jake Gyllenhaal steps off the scale to shake hands with UFC president Dana White. All is well until Jay Hieron shows up.

The former UFC fighter plays Jack Harris, the competitor of Jake Gyllenhaal’s character in the film. After he takes to the scale to weigh in, he and Gyllenhaal face off in typical pre-fight fashion, exchanging choice words with one another. Moments later, the 42-year-old Brokeback Mountain star smacks Hieron across the face.

Even though the entire incident is scripted, both performers are extremely convincing. After Hieron catches Jake Gyllenhaal’s hand, he rears back and the two are quickly pulled away from one another. Once he’s on the opposite side of the stage of Hieron, a tatted-up Gyllenhaal proceeds to mock his opponent.

While the staged incident is undoubtedly amusing to watch, we can’t seem to take our eyes off Jake Gyllenhaal’s chiseled physique. With that said, this isn’t the first time the actor has packed on muscle for a movie role. Previously, the performer got absolutely jacked for his turns in both Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and the boxing drama Southpaw.

Although MGM began development on the updated version of Road House all the way back to 2013, with Ronda Rousey originally attached to star, the project wasn’t officially greenlit until last August. The studio, which was purchased by Amazon Studios in early 2022, recently saw incredible success with Creed 3, with the threequel taking in over $50 million in its debut weekend. Whether or not Road House can match that film’s success remains to be seen.

In the forthcoming reboot, Jake Gyllenhaal will play a former UFC fighter who becomes a bouncer at a run-down roadhouse in the Florida Keys. When he encounters a bit of trouble in paradise, he’s sent on an insanely unforgettable journey. Along with Jay Hieron, the upcoming reboot stars Lukas Gage, Travis Van Winkle, Joaquim de Almeida, Billy Magnussen, Daniela Melchior, Arturo Castro, Conor McGregor, and Kevin Carroll. Doug Liman directed the film from a screenplay by Anthony Bagarozzi and Nick Cassavetes.

Patrick Swayze in Road House

The original Road House was a moderate success at the box office, earning $30 million from a production budget of $15 million. In the film, Patrick Swayze plays a tough bouncer, Dalton, who is hired to tame a dirty bar. Directed by Rowdy Herrington from a script penned by Hilary Henkin, the movie was released in theaters on May 19, 1989.
