Pack your bags and get ready for another vacation with Jada Pinkett Smith and the rest of your favorite ladies! Girls Trip 2 is officially on the way. The Matrix Resurrections star will be joined by returning actresses Queen Latifah, Regina Hall, and Tiffany Haddish to bring the fun back to audiences everywhere. The announcement comes to us from the producer of the original 2017 film, Will Packer, during an interview he had on Good Morning America. During his interview, Packer teased the new film by saying, “Can’t we all use a post-pandemic trip, my friend? I think that the time is actually right, and this is something that I will tell you and break right now at GMA: the Girls Trip 2 sequel, we are underway.”
The original film, Girls Trip, followed Jada Pinkett Smith and her group of lifelong friends known as the “Flossy Posse” as they set out on a part work, part play trip to New Orleans in hopes to rekindle their friendships and let loose together once again. The film, which was directed by Malcolm D. Lee, gained high praise from the critics, so it’s no surprise that a sequel is finally on the way.
But, where will Jada Pinkett Smith and the rest of the gals head off to this time? While the plot is being kept under wraps, Queen Latifah has been pushing for locations including Rio de Janeiro and South Africa. We know that when we get the girls together, the possibilities are truly endless and it doesn’t really matter where we see them, the group’s natural comedic chemistry is so contagious they’ll be sure to bring the party no matter where they are.
Jada Pinkett Smith is currently riding the wave of the latest installment of the Matrix franchise, The Matrix Resurrections. The actress reprised her role as Niobe in the film which picked up almost 20 years after the events of the last feature in 2003. With a double release to theaters and HBO Max just in time for the holiday season, the new film took audiences by storm when it once again posed the question: red pill or blue pill?
In her time between filming blockbuster hits, Jada Pinkett Smith fronts her own talk show, Red Table Talk, alongside her daughter, Willow Smith, and mother, Adrienne Banfield-Norris. So far, the Facebook Watch series has aired for four seasons with fans loving the honest and open dialogue that takes place between three different generations who talk about subjects ranging from pop culture to relationships to politics. The groundbreaking show raked in countless award nominations and wins and even helped the Gotham star land on Time magazine’s list of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2021.
As she is one of the busiest women in Hollywood, we are happy to hear that Jada Pinkett Smith plans to keep it that way and will be stepping up to reprise her role as single mother and nurse, Lisa Cooper, in a fresh installment of the Girls Trip franchise. While vacations may still be out of reach for some of us, we can’t wait to see what kinds of trouble the Flossy Posse will get themselves into in Girls Trip 2. As of right now, the film has no release date.
