One filmmaker was recently asked who their dream actor would be to work with for an upcoming Marvel sequel. Jackie Chan was their top choice, which makes a lot of sense, considering.

Shang-Chi 2 is happening. Marvel must be very pleased with the work of director Destin Daniel Cretton, as he has now signed on for a new Disney+ series in addition to his sequel. Many are curious to see what he’ll do. During a recent interview with CinemaBlend, he shared what one of his dreams would be. Specifically, he would love to see Jackie Chan take on a role for Marvel in Shang-Chi 2.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has made headlines for being the first Marvel movie telling an Asian story. CinemaBlend asked the filmmaker if there were any legendary Asian actors he’d like to cast for the sequel. To this, he said, “I mean, if we could ever get Jackie [Chan] into a movie that would be a lifelong dream of mine.” When the interviewer commended his suggestion and said that idea should be put out into the universe, the filmmaker responded enthusiastically. They said, “Yeah. Let’s put it out there.”
From what Destin Daniel Cretton and lead actor Simu Liu have previously shared about Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Jackie Chan would be a particularly amazing choice. The actor heavily inspired the first movie. Brad Allan was the action director on the first Marvel movie. Unfortunately, Brad Allan has since passed away. He had a legendary career, with included working with Jackie Chan. Fight scenes by both him and Bruce Lee heavily influenced the fight scene design on Shang-Chi. The fight scene on the bus was particularly inspired by movies with Jackie Chan.
Will audiences be able to make this happen? Currently, Jackie Chan is 67 years old. He’s expressed that he doesn’t want to repeat himself. He doesn’t do very many American movies these days because he’s said that he gets offered very similar roles to what he’s done in the past. That’s fair. Audiences do know Jackie Chan for a particular type of action scene and comedy scenes. That does seem to be what people want to see more of from him, too. Perhaps, though, the Marvel sequel will be able to offer him a role that comes with something a little bit more. Since the previous movie had fight scenes inspired by his style, they may want to see him do more of that. But maybe there’s room for Jackie Chan to play a character with more range than he’s been offered in the past, especially if the filmmaker is willing to work with Chan to get him on board.
These days, Jackie Chan is heavily involved in politics in China. The actor is from Hong Kong, is a communist, and wants to become a Chinese Community Party Member. This has drawn some controversy around him. He’s been discussing his views on the Party for several years. When he’s not involved in politics, he has been starring in many action-heavy films and some animated projects. He is set to star in and executive produce Once Upon a Zodiac, where he will be playing a cat. His projects are all based in different countries and fair amount of variety in his recent work. Clearly, he is still busy, still acting, and could possibly be convinced to sign on for Shang-Chi 2 once he gets word.
