Inside Out 2 Already Makes Disney History Before It’s Even Released
Pixar’s upcoming sequel, Inside Out 2, has rewritten history books by becoming the biggest animated trailer in Disney history. According to Variety, the one-minute and 30-second clip raked in a massive 157 million views within 24 hours of its release.
This figure not only dethrones the previous record holder, Frozen 2, released in 2019 but also sets a new standard for animated film marketing.
Inside Out 2 Trailer Gets 78 Million Views
A significant chunk of views, 78 million, came from the popular social media platform TikTok. These numbers not only indicate the widespread appeal of the sequel but also the effectiveness of Disney’s marketing strategy in leveraging modern platforms.
“We are thrilled so many people have tuned in to check out the new trailer for Inside Out 2,” Chief Creative Officer of Pixar, Pete Docter, said.
“When the first film came out, we knew that by telling a story where we could see our emotions – those little voices inside your head – there would be so much more to explore than we could possibly fit into one film,” said Docter, who helmed of the first Inside Out movie in 2015, continued.
He also praised sequel director Kelsey Mann and the team for expanding Inside Out 2 and introducing new emotions.
Returning And New Characters
The Inside Out 2 trailer not only showcases the return of familiar emotions, with Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, and Lewis Black reprising their roles as Joy, Sadness, and Anger, but also introduces new characters.
Tony Hale and Liza Lapira step into the roles of Fear and Disgust, previously held by Bill Hader and Mindy Kaling due to reported salary disputes.
Adding to the anticipation for the film is Maya Hawke, who joins the cast of Inside Out 2 as Anxiety – a new emotion. Inside Out 2 takes viewers back into Riley’s mind, delving into the challenges of adolescence.
Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust have been managing the metaphorical ship successfully for years. But they find themselves in uncharted emotional territory with the arrival of Anxiety and a few other newcomers.
Inside Out 2 Release
Inside Out 2 is set to hit theaters on June 14, 2024, and expectations are running high, given the unprecedented success of its trailer. “We couldn’t be more grateful to see the kind of response the trailer has received so far,” Docter added.
“Thank you to all who have checked it out. We can’t wait for everyone to see the film when it comes to theaters next summer.”
World-Building Sequel
Inside Out 2 was announced at the D23 Expo in September 2022, with Kelsey Mann, Mark Nielsen, and Meg LeFauve announced as director, producer, and writer, respectively.
The story incorporates Pete Docter’s concept of “five to 27 emotions,” an idea originally pitched by Mann during development of the first film.
This idea aims to employ “truthful” world-building in the sequel.

Released in 2015, Inside Out is a heartwarming animated Pixar movie that takes viewers on a journey into the mind of an 11-year-old girl named Riley Anderson. The premise revolves around the personification of human emotions.
