Idris Elba might be one of the most popular actors in the world currently. He also happens to be one of the biggest fan-favorite actors in the MCU. The man portrayed the all-seeing Asgardians known as Heimdall. We were introduced to the man in the early Thor movies, and he also returned for Avengers: Infinity War, where Thanos killed the man right after he sent Hulk back to Earth. That was not the last we have seen of him, as he returned to welcome Jane Foster into Valhalla. However, does this mean Elba might return in future entries? According to Elba, “We’ve seen him [Heimdall] as a warrior as well, and he has an immortality around him and that would be something that we haven’t really explored so that I think may be interesting. Hey, listen, you know, the Marvel world is ever-expanding. You just never know.”

Quite honestly, it makes complete sense that Heimdall would be in Valhalla, as he died a warrior’s death. That is what constitutes people being welcomed into Valhalla in Asgardian culture and in the mythos of Viking culture. However, it could be that Heimdall’s power extends beyond being all-seeing. He might be a character that “dies” but can reappear in the same way that Star Wars handles Force Ghosts. Also, we did get to see Heimdall’s son in Thor: Love and Thunder, so that could be a connection that a further movie can explore. Either way, we would love to see Elba return in some fashion to a bigger role than just a cameo.

Thor: Love and Thunder was a bit underwhelming, though it did hold some great moments for the MCU. The film welcomed Hercules to the MCU, and introduced more of the gods that exist in comic books. Also, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is set to do the same thing, as the Atlanteans will play a major plot in the film. Namor the Sub-Mariner is also being introduced, and he acts as a god of sorts, so it could be time to bring in more of a representation of those who are not just standard superheroes. This could be why or how Idris Elba is brought back as Heimdall. If Zeus can take a lightning bolt straight through the chest, we think Heimdall being stabbed will allow the man to live too. We do know he is in Valhalla, but he could be brought back for some other instance.

The MCU is currently dealing with the multiverse, so it stands to reason that the Heimdall we know is not the only one out in the multiverse. Idris Elba could return as a different version of Heimdall too. We are not sure how or why that would happen, but it is another avenue to explore. We wouldn’t mind seeing another version of Heimdall help Thor in his next adventure, especially if the new Avengers are going to take on Kang the Conqueror.

Idris Elba is set to star in Beast, and he has also stated that he is working on a big project for DC. He could be reprising his role as Bloodsport in a series or film. He was widely loved for his portrayal of the character in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. Though he is busy, it sounds like he would be up for reappearing as Heimdall in a bigger role.
