These days, when Jennifer Lawrence isn’t acting, she’s spending time with her husband Cooke Maroney and her 6-month-old son Cy. Before settling down with her family, however, the 32-year-old star apparently had a bit of a wild side. According to Entertainment Weekly, Lawrence would often get drunk and stoned with her The Hunger Games costars Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth.

Lawrence revealed that The Hunger Games films called for intense press events and premieres, and she and her costars would regularly unwind together in their hotel. She told The New York Times, “The boys and I would always go back to our hotel and just drink whiskey and get stoned.” She jokingly added, “My mother-in-law’s going to love this.”

Although Jennifer Lawrence began her career as an actress in the mid-2000s, her role as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games made her a global superstar. She appeared in all four films in the hit movie franchise, which are based on the young adult novels by Suzanne Collins. The motion picture adaptations were released annually from 2012 to 2015, and combined, they grossed close to $3 billion around the world.

All four entries in The Hunger Games franchise were well received by critics. The first movie centers around Katniss Everdeen, who voluntarily takes her younger sister’s place in a televised competition in which two teenagers from each of the 12 Districts of Panem are chosen at random to fight to the death. Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, and Josh Hutcherson appeared in each installment over the course of four years.

Although the trio of stars has moved on from The Hunger Games, a new prequel film is currently in the works. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes will follow Coriolanus Snow, who mentors and develops feelings for the female District 12 tribute during the 10th Hunger Games. The new movie is scheduled to arrive in theaters November 17th, 2023.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is based on the novel of the same name by Suzanne Collins, which was published in 2020, several years after the initial movie series concluded. The film features a brand-new cast that consists of Viola Davis, Hunter Schafer, Peter Dinklage, Burn Gorman, Rachel Zegler, Jason Schwartzman, Tom Blyth, and Fionnula Flanagan. Francis Lawrence, who directed all four of the previous installments in the series, is helming the forthcoming prequel.

In the novel, the story for The Hunger Games prequel takes place 64 years before the original books, however, it is currently unknown if the upcoming film adaptation will follow the same timeline. Collins wrote the treatment for the prequel movie, while Oscar-winning screenwriter Michael Arndt penned the screenplay. British writer Michael Lesslie also served as a writer for the picture.

Lionsgate has said on numerous occasions that it has plans for multiple The Hunger Games projects. At one point, there were even reports that the studio was looking to develop a television series, but nothing appears to be in motion on that front.  Regardless, the future of the series likely hinges on how well the forthcoming prequel performs at the box office, which could prove to be challenging considering none of the actors in the original series are returning.
