Hulu’s best comedy series, Only Murders in the Building, just got the green light for a third season. The series is currently airing its second season, with the next episode hitting the streaming platform tomorrow. It stars Steven Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez as three strangers in an apartment building, finding they have a shared interest in true crime, who start their own podcast. The second season follows the trio as they investigate the murder of Arconia Board President Bunny Folger while also being implicated in the crime, becoming the subject of a competing murder podcast.
Only Murders in the Building made Hulu history with its first season, becoming the most-watched comedy series in the Hulu Originals lineup. The increased attention around the series means it’s like a shoo-in for some Emmy attention this year, both for the series itself and for stars Steven Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez. The popularity and the award potential made a third season go-ahead basically inevitable. Steve Martin and John Hoffman are the co-creators and writers of the series. They also serve as executive producers along with Short, Gomez, Dan Fogelman, and Jess Rosenthal. In addition to the main trio, Only Murders in the Building also stars Amy Ryan, Aaron Dominguez, Jackie Hoffman, Teddy Coluca, Jayne Houdyshell, Vanessa Aspillaga, and more.
While Only Murders in the Building is the only project that Martin Short and Steve Martin are working on currently, the same can’t be said for Selena Gomez who also has several other projects in the works. Gomez’s next film project is expected to come out this year, with In the Shadow of the Mountain. In the Shadow of the Mountain tells the story of a woman finding power in mountaineering after a childhood of assault and neglect. Elgin James directed and adapted the true story of Silvia Vasquez-Lavado, who Gomez portrays in the movie. Silvia Vasquez-Lavado is known for being the first openly gay woman to complete the Seven Summits. Gomez is also set to star in Spiral, which is currently in the pre-production phases. Spiral is a thriller about a former influencer whose body literally starts to fall apart due to her social media addiction.
While we wait for new film projects from Gomez, we’ll have new episodes of Only Murders in the Building to keep us plenty entertained. The newest episode will air tomorrow and then there will be a new episode every Tuesday until the season is over. With Season 2 already off to an exciting start, there’s sure to be plenty of viewers tuning in to continue making it Hulu’s top original comedy series. If they’re able to maintain the momentum and quality we’ve come to expect from the show so far, who knows how many seasons we’ll get. Tomorrow’s episode will be the fourth of the season, with the season set to air ten episodes total. With the season not even halfway through, there’s still plenty of time to solve the season’s big mystery.
