There have been rumors for quite some time that a Hulk vs. Wolverine movie was in development in Marvel. Even though rumors keep sprouting up about the film, Marvel has yet to confirm that this project is even in the works. But a new rumor suggests that this Hulk vs. Wolverine movie is still in the works, and that the film will also be adding Red Hulk.

The rumor comes from Geekosity, who says that due to licensing agreements with Universal, Marvel is not allowed to just make a Hulk film. Instead, Hulk can be a co-lead of sorts with another hero, similar to what Marvel did with Thor: Ragnarok, but without Hulk’s name in the title. According to this rumor, Hulk Vs. Wolverine seems to still be happening, but it might not be called Hulk vs. Wolverine, or even mention Hulk in the title.

This rumor also says that the Canadian superhero group known as Alpha Fight is hunting Wolverine after his escape from a government facility. During their hunt, they find the Hulk, who has isolated himself in the Canadian wilderness. Bruce Banner doesn’t seem to be in control anymore, however, as he is now the Hulk in all his furious rage. With a loose, riled up Wolverine, and an out-of-control Hulk, Hulk vs. Wolverine could be quite an insane battle.

Hugh Jackman Wolverine

But in addition to these two, this rumor also states that Hulk vs. Wolverine will also introduce Red Hulk. The character of General “Thunderbolt” Ross has been played by William Hurt previously in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it seems we haven’t seen the last of him, as he will turn into the Red Hulk some time in the near future.

However, this transformation won’t happen during Hulk vs. Wolverine, but in some project before that film comes out. It’s not clear when this would happen, but Hurt will be returning for Black Widow, which is currently planned for a May 7, 2021 release. Disney+ will also be getting a She-Hulk series in the near future, starring Tatiana Maslany, so it seems like that would be a perfect opportunity to introduce Red Hulk to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

But beyond introducing Red Hulk into this world, there’s a lot more work that needs to be done in the Marvel Cinematic Universe before this Hulk vs. Wolverine rumor can become a reality. As the rumor states, the film includes Alpha Fight, a team that we have yet to see in this universe. While it sounds like Hulk vs. Wolverine could be the introduction of Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this universe has yet to introduce the X-Men yet, although the recent episode of WandaVision does seem to imply it could be coming sooner rather than later.

Hulk vs. Wolverine

While this could be just a rumor, it does seem like Marvel wants to do something more substantial with Hulk. Mark Ruffalo has said for years he would like his own film, and with She-Hulk and the return of General Ross, it seems like Marvel does have plans to make Hulk a major part of this story going forward. Whether or not that means a Hulk vs. Wolverine movie is yet to be seen, but it does seem like Marvel is getting closer to making such a combo a reality.
