Hugh Jackman could be returning to this greatest role, as he stated there’s “always a chance” that he would return to a sequel for The Greatest Showman. While we are hoping the man is going to drop some sort of reveal that he is going to be Wolverine again, he was asked about returning to his most beloved musical role.
Hugh Jackman is no stranger to musical roles, as the man is currently in his final run for the Broadway play, The Music Man. He proved that plenty in The Greatest Showman as well, and the film was nominated for an Original Song Academy Award. Michelle Williams was Jackman’s co-star and the person who was initially asked about the film getting a sequel.
Despite critics being somewhat entertained by The Greatest Showman, audiences loved Hugh Jackman in the role. In fact, the movie holds a 56% critic approval rating and a 86% audience approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Also, the film went on to secure $435 million in worldwide box office numbers, against a budget of $95 million.
The Greatest Showman also boasted one of the best ensemble casts. Hugh Jackman led the way alongside Michelle Williams, Zac Efron, Rebecca Ferguson, and Zendaya. That is quite the cast that helped catapult this film into one of the best surprises of 2017. Naturally, people have been asking plenty about Jackman and the rest of the cast coming back for a sequel.
Hugh Jackman has quite a busy schedule ahead of it, so he likely would not be able to make a sequel to The Greatest Showman for quite a bit. Jackman is currently doing his press tour for The Son, which has heavy Oscar nomination implications. He will then be starring in an animated series called Koala Man.
From Koala Man, Hugh Jackman will then head to the sequel to Australia called Faraway Downs which sees him reunite with fellow Aussie, Nicole Kidman. Jackman then has a pair of movies he is working on, which are titled The Good Spy and Apostle Paul. The former is a biopic about a CIA operative, with the latter being a film based around a figure from the bible.
Hugh Jackman could also theoretically return to the MCU for a small cameo, though we are not sure that is going to happen. His friend, Ryan Reynolds, seems to want to convince the world that Jackman’s version of Wolverine will make a huge cameo in Deadpool 3. We would all love to see that, but we are certainly not holding our breaths.
The Greatest Showman was far more successful than most people give it credit for, and Hugh Jackman has not shut down the possibility of returning for a sequel, per the above video. Granted, he is quite busy for now, but that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t revisit the world of P.T. Barnum.
For now, we can all patiently wait and see if Hugh Jackman is given a script for a potential sequel. He was quite enamored with the idea and laughed at Michelle Williams essentially trying to entice him to return to The Greatest Showman. We would also love to see that happen.
