Hugh Jackman is a man of many, many talents. In fact, if his latest Instagram posts are anything to go by, that might be an understatement. Jackman is someone that you can definitely apply the “triple-threat” label to. In his latest posts, you can see him singing, dancing, and acting in preparation for his role in the Broadway revival of The Music Man. Check out the posts below:
The Music Man will mark Hugh Jackman’s big return to Broadway. In The Music Man, Jackman will star as Harold Hill who wants to con a small town into buying uniforms and instruments for a marching band, before the local librarian attempts to dissuade him.
Hugh Jackman’s last Broadway role was way back in 2014 when he starred in The River. Although many people are likely most familiar with Jackman’s work as the surly mutant Wolverine in the X-Men movies, he actually has a long, storied career on the stage. Other than The River and his upcoming show, he’s also been featured in his original production Hugh Jackman, Back on Broadway along with roles in A Steady Rain, The Boy from Oz, Oklahoma!, and more. His role in The Boy from Oz even netted him a Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a musical. He’s also been featured in the musical film adaptations of Les Miserables.
The Australian actor can clearly do it all. Strangely, even though he’s most known for his acting career, that’s the only award he’s still missing to achieve the coveted EGOT status. EGOT is an unofficial designation someone gets when they’ve won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony. Surprisingly, the only trophy Hugh Jackman is still missing from his case is the Oscar. Funnily enough, his one Oscar nomination was from his musical-movie role in Les Miserables. His co-star Anne Hathaway ended up winning in her category, but Jackman walked away award-less. The Academy is sure to recognize the actor eventually, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
Who knows? maybe he’ll nab that EGOT title sooner than later. He’s certainly staying plenty busy. In addition to his role in The Music Man, he has several projects currently in pre-production and one project that is confirmed to release in 2022. The 2022 project is titled The Son where he plays a father whose ex-wife re-enters his life out of nowhere with their teenage son. Other upcoming roles include his rumored starring role in The Good Spy where he would play CIA operative, Robert Ames. His other two roles will be two very different biopics — one where he plays the Italian race car driver and entrepreneur Enzo Ferrari and one where he plays the Apostle Paul, one of Jesus’s disciples.
Needless to say, whether you’re a fan of Hugh Jackman on stage, on screen, or both you’ll have plenty to see in 2022 and beyond. You can catch The Music Man when it opens on Broadway on February 10, 2022. Tickets are currently available for the show through November of next year.
