Hugh Grant Has Nightmares About Being Stalked By A Hot Dog Man
While attending San Diego Comic Con last year to promote Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, Hugh Grant was stalked by a man in a hot dog costume for the entire weekend.
Chris Pine and Hugh Grant will co-star in the upcoming film Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, the third attempt at bringing the tabletop franchise to life on the big screen. Collider reports an interview with the two stars, promoting the film, which takes an odd turn when the topic of promoting at comic cons is brought up. Turns out, the Love Actually star was traumatized over a strange cosplayer dressed as a hot dog.
Hugh Grant explains his San Diego Comic-Con experience as “There was only one person at that convention who really loved me, and he was dressed for the whole three days as a hot dog. And he followed me wherever I went. I couldn’t shake him. Do you remember the hot dog? I was terrified. I still have nightmares about him.”
Prior to being haunted by a hot dog man, Hugh Grant’s biggest concern was being introduced to the masses at San Diego Comic Con to crickets after Chris Pine entered to thundering applause. The Notting Hill star went from being worried he was too old for the comic con crowd to wondering how he could evade the strange hot dog man. Anyone that has been to a sci-fi convention, a comic convention, or even a renaissance fair, has seen attendees in costumes that are highly questionable, usually with the behavior to match.

San Diego Comic Con started in 1970 and has steadily grown into the largest convention on the planet, with major movie studios debuting exclusive footage in the now legendary Hall H. Hugh Grant, and his hot dog stalking, has joined a long list of celebrities taken out of their comfort zone and thrust in front of a roaring audience. Decked out in strange costumes from Stormtroopers, Deadpool dressed as a Stormtrooper, and even the cabbage merchant from Avatar: The Last Airbender, there is no audience quite like a comic convention audience.
Adam Savage of Mythbusters has famously designed elaborate costumes of his own that he can wear in order to navigate the crowds at San Diego Comic Con without being recognized. Clearly, Hugh Grant’s mistake was in not disguising himself and throwing off his hot-dog clad stalker.
Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves will be the fourth movie in the franchise (the third was a direct-to-DVD release), which kicked off with an absolute dud of a film with the Jeremy Irons Dungeons and Dragons in 2000. In 2005, Dungeons and Dragons: Wrath of the Dragon God had a limited theatrical run after originally debuting on the Sci-Fi channel. Hugh Grant, Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, and Rege-Jene Page have their work cut out for them in the latest attempt to translate the world’s biggest role-playing game to a watchable movie.
Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, featuring Hugh Grant as Forge Fitzwilliam the rogue, will be out March 31, 2023.
