We are only one week into House of the Dragon premiering on HBO and HBO Max, and the show’s fate has already been sealed. It has been announced that this new Games of Thrones prequel has been given the green light for House of the Dragon Season 2, which is huge news. The usual case for shows is a season renewal happens towards the end of the season, but HBO has seen enough to want to continue this look at the rise and fall of House Targaryen. It does help that the premiere of the new series pulled in 10 million viewers, making it the biggest premiere on both HBO and HBO Max.
House of the Dragon takes place over a hundred years before the events of Game of Thrones and effectively shows how Daenerys Targaryen’s ancestors used to dominate the Iron Throne. They did so with the usage of their many dragons. We have only seen three dragons in Game of Thrones, which were all used by Daenerys. Though only a couple were shown in the premiere episode, there are some 22 reported dragons that will appear in the prequel this season. The fall of House Targaryen leads to the Dance of the Dragons, which is a civil war that involves a massive dragon battle. We can’t wait to see that. With House of the Dragon Season 2 to work with, that battle might be a bit far off, but we will patiently wait to see it all go down.
House of the Dragon stars Paddy Considine as Viserys I, Matt Smith as Daemon Targaryen, Milly Alcock as Young Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, Emily Carey as Alicent Hightower, and many more. From the first episode alone, the feelings of the show echo the original seasons of Game of Thrones. Everyone collectively disliked the final two seasons of the original series, leaving everyone to wonder what would happen with House of the Dragon. The good news is that everyone seems to have enjoyed the premiere of the prequel, as we are now going to be getting a House of the Dragon Season 2.
House of the Dragon premiered on HBO and HBO Max on Sunday, August 21st. The new episodes of this 10 episodes season will air every Sunday. If production should start on the House of the Dragon Season 2 this year, we could be seeing the second season premiere in late 2023. That would make sense, as Game of Thrones usually had a fall release date as well. One thing is for sure, we cannot wait to see more dragons. Well, dragons are cool, but we also can’t wait to see more betrayal.
House of the Dragon Season 2 has been approved, and we will all patiently wait to see how this first season plays out. So far, Daemon Targaryen could be the villain in the story, though he does show some amazing elements of loyalty to his brother. The best part is trying to guess who is going to be sitting on the Iron Throne next.
