House Of The Dragon Season 2 Unleashes Vengeance, See The Series Return In Style
Blood, vengeance, and family drama all take center stage in the official trailer for House of the Dragon Season 2. The show is almost finally back after a year and a half of keeping audiences on the edge of their seats following a dramatic and tragic conclusion. The teaser reveals the madness that will unfold during the sophomore season as the Targaryen dynasty rips itself to shreds, all in the name of the Iron Throne.
Prepared for a fight, Rhaenys can be seen teaming up with Matt Smith’s Daemon Targaryen, who is ready to take the battle to King’s Landing in the House of the Dragon Season 2 trailer.
The latest teaser for House of the Dragon Season 2 starts calmly enough, with a voiceover of Emma D’Arcy’s Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen explaining that, in her house, the duty of King or Queen extends into the protector of the realm. Odes to Game of Thrones can be seen flashing over her words like the backside of Kit Harrington’s Jon Snow as he marches his way North and the three dragon eggs that would change the course of Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen.
Around this point, all hell begins to break loose, and we’re thrown back into the family drama that carried the first season of HBO’s hit series.
Lines are drawn in the sand, a family is ripped at its seams, and dragons take to the skies throughout the rest of the House of the Dragon Season 2 trailer…
Queen Rhaenyra chats with Princess Rhaenys (Eve Best) about the former’s half-brother and the usurper of her throne. Prepared for a fight, Rhaenys can be seen teaming up with Matt Smith’s Daemon Targaryen, who is ready to take the battle to King’s Landing in the House of the Dragon Season 2 trailer.
Sitting comfortably on his throne, the pompous Aegon (Ty Tennant) stresses out his mother, Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke), and his sadistic brother, Aemond (Ewan Mitchell), as he delves the kingdom into a more brutal war than it’s ever seen before.
With both Targaryen clans out for blood and vengeance, Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans) assures Aegon and Alicent that when the houses are forced to choose, they’ll side with them.
Meanwhile, the cracks are beginning to show between Rhaenyra and Daemon, foreshadowing the possibility of a power struggle between the pair in the upcoming installment. Lines are drawn in the sand, a family is ripped at its seams, and dragons take to the skies throughout the rest of the House of the Dragon Season 2 trailer, with all signs pointing towards another terrific set of episodes.
If the first season of House of the Dragon is any indication, HBO is in for another viewership ratings success with Season 2.
Along with the aforementioned primary characters, the House of the Dragon Season 2 trailer gives viewers plenty of glimpses at other favorite heroes and villains we love to hate, including Fabien Frankel’s Ser Criston Cole, Steve Toussaint’s Corlys Velaryon, Harry Collett’s Jacaerys Velaryon, and Phoebe Campbell’s Lady Rhaena Targaryen.
After serving as the co-showrunner for Season 1, Miguel Sapochnik declined to come back for the upcoming season, leaving Ryan Condal (who also created the series with George R. R. Martin) as the one to carry the torch.
If the first season of House of the Dragon is any indication, HBO is in for another viewership ratings success with Season 2. As the series that first got audiences hooked on Westeros, Game of Thrones, had been off the air for a few years, fans were ready to saddle back up on bigger and badder dragons (sorry Drogon) and ride off into a new story. You can catch the premiere episode of the show’s second season when it arrives on June 16.
