House Of The Dragon Season 2 Leaks Online
Within days of its climactic premiere, clips from the highly anticipated season two finale of HBO’s House of the Dragon were leaked onto social media app TikTok. Although the original post has been removed it garnered over 100 thousand views before being taken down and has already been reuploaded to various social media platforms.
The Season 2 Finale Is Online
HBO addressed the House of the Dragon leak in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. Apparently, the clips, which accumulated to about 30 minutes of footage, were posted after the occurrence of an unintentional release from an international third-party distributor. Currently, HBO is closely monitoring social media feeds, aiming to remove any clips that have been re-uploaded.
A Previous Leak
This is not the first ill-timed leak the House of the Dragon production has had to face. In 2022, the entirety of the Season 1 finale was illegally made available merely days before its premiere. HBO then, and still now, attributes this massive slip-up to a distribution partner in the EMEA (Europe, the Middle East, or Africa) region. Its parent series, Game of Thrones, faced a similar situation when an episode from its seventh season was prematurely and illegally uploaded to a torrent website; multiple episodes from its final season shared the same fate.
Though it may not seem like it, HBO made certain that more rigorous privacy rules were put in place to ensure that House of the Dragon would go un-leaked. One such rule was to not send any screeners of the Season 2 finale to journalists. Unfortunately, it seems HBO picked the wrong third party to worry about.
The Books Will Never Be Finished
Fans aren’t too up in arms about the House of the Dragon leak as Fire & Blood, the book the series is adapted from, has been out for over five years. Also, the series serves as a prequel to Game of Thrones, so almost the entirety of the fanbase knows what’s going to happen anyway. True leaks only existed for the final season of Game of Thrones due to George R. R. Martin needing over a decade to finish the final books (yes, we are still waiting on both of them).
Season 2 Isn’t As Popular
Despite the leak, HBO is confident that the highly anticipated season two finale of House of the Dragon will have a successful premiere. On debut night, the finale of the first season was watched by over 9.3 million viewers; despite views being down by 22 percent in season two, it is still expected to pull some impressive numbers. We’re interested to see if it will take episode four’s place as the viewership high for the season.
Avoid Social Media For The Next Few Days
Currently, House of the Dragon is available to view on HBO’s streaming platform, Max. Though the leak has made it all anyone can talk about already, the Season 2 finale will debut this Sunday, August 4 at 9 pm. The unreleased episode is titled “The Red Sowing” and dedicated fans across the world anticipate its release. For those who want to watch it spoiler-free we advise staying off social media for the next couple of days just in case the leaked clips keep making the rounds.
