See Homelander From The Boys As Wolverine
See Homelander actor Anthony Starr as X-Men mutant Wolverine.
Ever wonder what Homelander might look like as X-Men mutant Wolverine? We have got you covered!
With Marvel cranking out casting news recently, and the introduction of X-Men characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe likely coming relatively soon, one artist has taken to Instagram to visualize what a new version of one of the most famous X-Men could theoretically look like. And he has used another established superhero actor, Antony Starr (Homelander from The Boys) to do it.
spdrmnkyxxiii on Instagram has posted a concept of what he thinks Antony Starr/Homelander from The Boys would potentially look like as Wolverine. In a black and yellow suit, with adamantium claws out and ready to go, and splattered in blood, sprdmnkyxxiii’s take on Wolverine also sort of looks like Liev Schreiber, who played Wolverine’s brother, Sabertooth in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
In an interview with Screen Geek in August of this year, when asked which Marvel X-Men character he would most like to play, Homelander actor Starr stated Wolverine. Starr continued, “Big shoes to fill, man. Jackman’s pretty much put his mark on that, hasn’t he? So, I never say never, man – but at the moment, I’m just enjoying what we’re doing here. I mean, to be honest, Wolverine doesn’t wear spandex, which is definitely a negative for me. I do like the feel of tight pants, you know, if they can tighten the jeans up, maybe.” Yet as of right now, it seems as though Starr is content playing Homelander on The Boys, which wraps up its second season next week, and has already been renewed for a third season.
Jackman’s last outing as Wolverine occurred in the 2017 film, Logan, which grossed over $619 million worldwide. Jackman has stated that Logan is the conclusion of this character for him, which has since led to rampant theorizing as to who will play Wolverine if and when the X-Men are introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Actors as varied as Taron Egerton and Shia LaBeouf have previously been mentioned for the role, while Marvel has of course been quiet about any rumors. However, Marvel’s Kevin Feige has stated that the wait to see the X-Men in the MCU could take a while. So, Antony Starr/Homelander has a shot!
In an interview with io9 soon after Disney purchased Fox, Feige stated, “It’s all just beginning and the five-year plan that we’ve been working on, we were working on before any of that was set. So really it’s much more, for us, less about specifics of when and where [the X-Men will appear] right now and more just the comfort factor and how nice it is that they’re home. That they’re all back. But it will be a very long time.” That hasn’t stopped Feige in the past year from winking at the audience, mentioning at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con, “There’s a lot of other stuff we didn’t have the chance to talk about today… I didn’t even have time to talk about the Fantastic Four. And there’s no time left to talk about mutants.”
The first hint of what Disney purchasing Fox might mean for the future of the MCU came last month, when it was announced that Lovecraft Country’s Jonathan Majors would be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the third Ant-Man film. Majors is rumored to be playing Kang the Conquerer, whose alter ego is Nathaniel Richards, who in some iterations of the character is the father of the Fantastic Four’s Reed Richards. It’s uncertain if Majors’ role will lead to the eventual introduction of the previously-Fox-owned properties of X-Men and Fantastic Four, but it certainly seems like a step in the right direction.
In the meantime, enjoy this concept of what Antony Starr/Homelander would look like as everyone’s favorite mutant.
