Home Alone Once Again Proves Its A Holiday Standard With Incredible TV Showing
Home Alone is indisputably a holiday classic, but you would expect that it would maybe lose some steam over the years. However, that is far from the case, as Freeform has seen a surge in viewership thanks to the 1990 film. As part of Freeform’s annual 25 days of Christmas, it aired the holiday classic and scored its most-watched week of the year in both primetime and total day, with Home Alone claiming the top spot as the week’s number one cable movie among adults aged 18-49.
Home Alone Is The #1 Movie On Cable
Deadline reported that the Nielsen ratings also indicate that Freeform has been the top cable entertainment network in primetime among adults 18-49, adults 18-34, and women 18-34 while ranking number two with women 18-49 and men 18-49. Home Alone has helped Freeform start December off right, though it’s certainly possible that other networks could take the crown as the holiday season continues. Meanwhile, Netflix and Prime Video also saw their numbers shoot up for their newly released holiday films.
Freeform’s 25 Days Of Christmas
Freeform certainly seems intent on holding on to those viewers, as there are quite a few cable movie telecasts scheduled for the rest of its 25 Days of Christmas schedule. Along with Home Alone, the channel will be airing classics like Home Alone II: Lost in New York, The Santa Clause, The Santa Clause 2, Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Disney’s A Christmas Carol, Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmas, and plenty more. If you’re someone who loves getting into the holiday spirit with movies, then Freeform seems like the place to do it.
Home Alone Has Been A Christmas Classic Since 1990
Of course, you should make sure to fit in at least one viewing of the enduring Home Alone if you’re tuning into Freeform’s packed holiday schedule. Released in 1990, the film follows the mischievous Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin), who mistakenly gets left at home when his family heads out on a holiday trip to Paris. If that’s not bad enough, Kevin finds himself having to protect the family household when two con men (Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern) show up to rob the place.
The Cast
Chris Colombus directed Home Alone with a script from John Hughes, and the film has a great cast to boot. Along with Culkin, Pesci, and Stern, it stars Catherine O’Hara, Roberts Blossom, and John Heard. Culkin’s game of cat-and-mouse with Pesci and Stern is definitely the highlight, as he lays plenty of devious traps that borderline make you feel bad for the robbers. It doesn’t hurt that the incomparable John Williams scored the film, earning an Oscar nomination in the process.
Home Alone 2 Also Airing On Freeform
Along with airing Home Alone, Freeform will also be airing the sequels Home Alone 2: Lost in New York and Home Alone 3. While they’re not quite as good as the original, they’re still great watches for the whole family. In any case, make sure to check out Freeform’s full schedule to find out when you catch all three films this month.
