Henry Cavill Is Rugged And Ready In First Image From New World War II Movie
Henry Cavill posted a first look at his new WWII movie, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.
Even though he won’t appear in any more DC movies after the James Gunn-Superman fiasco, and even though season 3 of The Witcher will be his final appearance as Geralt of Rivia, Henry Cavill has plenty of other projects in the works. One of them is a World War II spy film called The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare by director Guy Ritchie and producer Jerry Bruckheimer. Fans can see a first look at this highly anticipated film courtesy of Cavill himself, who posted a photo on his Instagram page:
Henry Cavill has worked with Guy Ritchie before on 2015’s The Man from U.N.C.L.E, and it was announced that the Man of Steel actor would be teaming up with the director again for The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare last October. The movie has been described as a World War II action spy flick, and the promotional photo (taken by celebrity photographer Daniel Smith) definitely takes the viewer back in time, making it feel like it really is a photograph from the 1940s.
The image, which is in black and white, and has realistic distressed details added around the edges, features Henry Cavill front and center in his bearded look for the film and suspenders. Even though Cavill won’t be playing Superman anymore, the actor apparently mastered the superhero pose during his stint at DC, and he stands confidently in front of his comrades with his hands on his hips. Also included in the picture are Alan Ritchson, Alex Pettyfer, Hero Fiennes Triffin, and Henry Golding.
For The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, Henry Cavill teams up with a collective of popular actors. Alan Ritchson recently starred as the titular character in Amazon Prime’s Reacher TV series. Hero Fiennes Triffin is the nephew of U.K.’s favorite acting brothers, Ralph and Joseph Fiennes, and he is probably most recognized for playing Tom Riddle in the Harry Potter series. Alex Pettyfer is well known for playing Adam in Magic Mike, and Henry Golding is most known for the extremely successful romantic comedy Crazy Rich Asians.
Along with Henry Cavill and co., The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare also stars Cary Elwes, Eiza Gonzalez, Til Schweiger, Babs Olusanmokun, and Henrique Zaga.
Production for The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare began in Turkey last month, but the film has been kept tightly under wraps. We do know that the movie is based on Damien Lewis’ best-selling book, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare: How Churchill’s Secret Warriors Set Europe Ablaze and Gave Birth To Modern Black Ops, which is based on a true story of a top-secret WWII offensive organization put into place by UK Prime Minister Winston Churchill and Ian Fleming. The group of men who would eventually become the Black Ops were ruthless and uncompromising about achieving their goal of stopping the Nazis.
So far, only the actors have been announced, with no indication of who they will play. However, even though no official statements have been made, it’s safe to assume that Henry Cavill, Alan Ritchson, Alex Pettyfer, Hero Fiennes Triffin, and Henry Golding are all part of the merciless team of “ungentlemanly” men, based on Cavill’s social media post.
The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is targeting a 2024 release date.
