See Henry Cavill As Geralt For The Final Time In First Look At The Witcher Season 3
See Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia one last time in the trailer for The Witcher Season 3.
Henry Cavill’s last outing as Geralt of Rivia can be seen in the trailer for The Witcher season three. In the clip, Geralt, armed with a sword, engages in fierce combat against a wide array of adversaries, including monstrous creatures, human foes, and anything that dares to cross his path. “Neutrality, it won’t get you a statue. But it’ll certainly help in keeping you alive,” he says in voice-over.
But Henry Cavill’s Witcher is not the only one in trouble. The trailer also hints at the deeper layers of dark magic concerning the intertwined journeys of Yennefer of Vengerberg and Cirilla of Cintra. Throughout the clip, it becomes clear that the family will face the heart-wrenching prospect of being torn apart again.
Viewers also get a glimpse of the relentless Wild Hunt pursuing Ciri while Geralt and Yennefer fiercely battle to protect her. The stakes are undeniably high as they grapple with forces that threaten to upend their lives and plunge the realm into chaos. Starring Henry Cavill, The Witcher returns to Netflix with five episodes on June 29. The remaining three episodes arrive on July 27.
Based on the popular fantasy novel series by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, the Netflix adaptation of The Witcher garnered a massive following worldwide since its debut in 2019. The series takes place in a medieval-inspired fantasy world known as The Continent and follows the adventures of Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill), a skilled monster hunter known as the Witcher.
Witchers are seen as outcasts by society but are hired by people to eliminate supernatural threats. Geralt’s encounters lead him into morally complex situations and entangle him in the political struggles of the various kingdoms. Showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich previously acknowledged the show’s deviations from Andrzej Sapkowski’s original saga.
However, fans can take comfort in knowing that Hissrich promised season three would be more faithful to the source material. She previously stated that the upcoming season would be the closest Henry Cavill’s Witcher has come to a one-to-one adaptation of the books. “We can’t do every page, but Time of Contempt gave us so much that we were able to stick closely with the books,” she explained.
Henry Cavill’s portrayal of the Witcher has been instrumental in the success of the series. The British actor skillfully embodied the iconic character, bringing forth a compelling combination of physicality, charisma, and emotional depth. However, he will not be returning for the fourth season. Instead, Liam Hemsworth will take over Geralt of Rivia’s role.
The news of the recasting garnered a wave of disappointment among fans, who expressed their dissatisfaction on various social media platforms. Still, Hemsworth is excited to take on the role and shared his excitement in a post on Instagram.
“As a Witcher fan, I’m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia,” he wrote. “Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt [Withcer], and I’m honored that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades.”
