Fans of Henry Cavill and his portrayal of Geralt of Rivia will be happy to know that The Witcher Season 3 is officially underway. The production shared a picture via their official Netflix account on Twitter. While the landscape is a familiar cold and frost-bitten forest, we get to see Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer sitting with one another on their chairs while on set. There is also a horse in the distance, though it is likely not the familiar best friend of Geralt, Roach. You can see the first-look image below:
With production already beginning for the Henry Cavill-led video game adaptation, it could mean that fans won’t have to wait long for The Witcher to return. Productions that often begin in the beginning quarter of the year are often seen towards the end of that same year. This is just speculation, but it could happen. The Witcher is arguably one of the best video game adaptations of all time. Cavill’s portrayal of Geralt has also been one of the most well-received. The Witcher Season 2 has an astounding 95% “certified fresh” critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes. While the audience score is a much lower 60%, it has still been spoken about as one of the best takes on The Witcher.
Even more exciting than the announcement that The Witcher Season 3 is underway, the Netflix Twitter page also decided to treat fans with a look at the plot for the upcoming season. We get to see an image of Geralt (Henry Cavill), Ciri, and Yennefer sitting with one another, but more context is given via the official synopsis announcement that was paired with the first-look image. You can see the synopsis announcement below:
The Witcher Season 3 seems to be raising the stakes for all involved. Ciri is being hunted, much like in the video game: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Geralt receives a letter from his former lover, Yennefer, who tells him that his adopted daughter is in danger. Ciri is being hunted due to her powers. She can control space and time unlike anyone before and naturally evil forces want to use that to their advantage. From the above synopsis, it appears as if that storyline is going to be part of season three’s central storyline. Any chance to see Henry Cavill sword fighting is going to be fantastic and protecting Ciri and a fortress sounds as if that is going to happen plenty in the upcoming season.
The first two seasons of The Witcher came out in the winter months, so we can assume that season three will follow that same formula. Both also contained eight episodes each. This could mean that the third season is meant to copy its predecessors. It has also been reported that Henry Cavill is likely not going to return as Superman, so that could mean he has more time to dedicate to his other roles. Appearing in The Witcher is one that fans will go crazy for. While we have seen a clean-shaven Geralt so far, maybe this could be the season in which we see the man sporting his iconic white beard.
