Back in July of 2020, a clip was shown of Zack Snyder’s Justice League at Justice Con 2020, which showed Henry Cavill as Superman showing up in a black suit to Jeremy Irons’ Alfred Pennyworth. While the clip leaked online almost immediately, this clip has now been posted to Justice Con’s YouTube page, without looking like it was filmed on a cellphone.
This clip was one of the first pieces of footage revealed for Zack Snyder’s Justice League, and while it’s only about 17 seconds long, it’s enough to excite the fans that have been waiting so long for this release. At the very least, Henry Cavill looks commanding in the black Superman suit, and it’s exciting to see the return of Irons as Alfred. These two meeting for the first time is just a quick glimpse at what Snyder has in store for his vision of Justice League.
Zack Snyder’s new version of the Justice League has been in high demand from fans who wanted to see the director’s vision for the project. HBO Max announced that they would be releasing Zack Snyder’s Justice League, while Snyder’s update of the film would cost an extra $70 million, allowing him to finish the visual effects, editing, score, and filming new material that included Henry Cavill. In fact, both Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins and Aquaman’s Jason Momoa has said that Snyder’s vision for the series is canon, and Joss Whedon’s original version has been thrown out.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League includes new footage specifically shot for this project. In doing this Snyder brought back quite a few actors, including Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher, Joe Manganiello, Amber Heard, Harry Lennix, and Jared Leto. Despite all these actors coming back for this new reenvisioning of this story, apparently, Snyder only shot four minutes of extra footage for his Justice League.
It will be almost four years between the release of Justice League and Zack Snyder’s Justice League, and star Henry Cavill has done plenty of other projects in that time. Since Joss Whedon’s Justice League, Cavill has released Mission: Impossible – Fallout and Night Hunter. Last year, he played Sherlock Holmes in Netflix’s Enola Holmes, and in 2019, he starred as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher. Cavill will return for the second season of The Witcher, which is scheduled to debut in 2021.
The original Justice League was seen as a failure for DC, despite earning over $657 million worldwide. Justice League would only make $229 million domestically, and the film currently holds a 40% on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer. After years of fans calling for the release of the Snyder cut of Justice League, HBO Max finally gave fans what they want, and apparently, that is Henry Cavill hovering around Alfred in a black suit.
There’s not too much longer to wait for Zack Snyder’s Justice League, as the four-hour film is coming to HBO Max on March 18, 2021. Good or bad, at the very least, we will hopefully finally quit hearing about the Snyder cut.
