Season one of The Witcher with Henry Cavill was a huge success for the streaming service. The series is still one of their top biggest successes for ratings. At this point, we still have to wait the rest of the year before we’ll get to see The Witcher season 2 premiere on the streaming service on December 17, 2021. While it’s customary for studios to wait to see how one season of a series does with an audience before moving forward to the next, is it possible that season three of the popular show is already in the works?
ComicBook.com has reported that, according to insiders for Redanian Intelligence, Netflix already has the writers working on The Witcher season three. This is a big move since they haven’t made any official announcements on the third season. However, there have been rumors that Netflix is excited to see more of the series far into the future. There are also many reports that Henry Cavill has said he would be happy to star in The Witcher for as long as Netflix continues doing the series. This is a bold statement since the star is currently attached to many other projects and series are a major commitment, but Cavill has seemed, by all means, to be enthusiastic about the series.
How likely is it that this rumor is true and the writers are already in the writer’s room, working away? There’s a fair amount of reason to believe that could be happening. The Henry Cavill series has been a big success. So big, in fact, that Netflix is moving forward with a spinoff series called The Witcher: Blood Origin. Believing that they are willing to work on season three without releasing season two yet isn’t so far-fetched.
What will it mean if The Witcher season three is already having scripts worked on? The big and obvious takeaway here is that it could mean Netflix releases the third season with a much shorter gap. It could mean that Henry Cavill begins filming the third season much sooner. That would be a great thing for fans, especially after pandemic lockdowns have meant delays on releases for so many of their favorite shows. Seeing a shorter release timeline would be excellent.
As for what we can expect to see from The Witcher season two, they haven’t given us much to go on yet. At WitcherCon, Henry Cavill shared that audiences won’t be seeing him topless in a hot tub as they did in season one, which was possibly not his best effort to sell the series to his audience, but maybe the writers will get on that for The Witcher season three.

While the news that the writers for The Witcher may be working on season three right now brings hope that the third season will be released at a quicker pace, there are no guarantees. Other factors, like Henry Cavill’s busy filming schedule, may be a big factor. We’ll be watching for official announcements (and even more hints) from Netflix for their future plans with Cavill and the fan-favorite series.
