Henry Cavill Still Planning To Play Superman Under One Condition?
With DC announcing a Superman reboot, it sounded as though Henry Cavill might be out as the superhero. That might not be true, if this one thing happens.

With the recent news that J.J. Abrams is working on a Superman reboot with Ta-Nehisi Coates, many have wondered where that leaves the current Superman, Henry Cavill. While Warner Bros. hasn’t said that Cavill is done as the superhero, many have assumed that is where this news is heading. But a new theory suggests that Cavill will still be Superman, just not in Abrams’ take on the character.
This comes from Geekosity, who says that Henry Cavill will likely remain Superman, but J.J. Abrams’ version of Superman won’t be Clark Kent. Instead, Abrams’ film could possibly focus on the Earth-23 version of Superman, Calvin Ellis, the Kryptonian who is also president of the United States in this alternate dimension. We also made a similar prediction that there could soon be multiple Superman in the DC Universe as well.
Having multiple Superman makes far more sense than kicking Henry Cavill out of the DC Universe entirely. With the upcoming The Flash movie supposedly based on the Flashpoint comics, and with plenty of rumors that Michael Keaton is returning as another universe’s Bruce Wayne, it seems that like Marvel, DC is going to be diving headfirst into the multiverse.
Recently, there were also rumors that Henry Cavill had signed a new deal with DC, in which he would appear as Superman in multiple new projects. Apparently, Cavill’s plan for the future of his characters was taken positively by Warner Bros., so it wouldn’t make a ton of sense for the studio to kick Cavill out.
Plus, considering that Warner Bros. already has multiple versions of different characters in their roster, it also isn’t exactly logical to assume that a Superman reboot means that Henry Cavill is now out of a superhero job. For example, we already have Robert Pattinson’s Batman in his own film, while Ben Affleck is still Batman in another series of films. Jared Leto can play the Joker in Suicide Squad, while Joaquin Phoenix can win an Oscar for playing the character in Joker. DC has already proven time and time again that there’s plenty of room for various versions of the same character in their lineup of films.
But if The Flash does introduce multiple versions of the same character in their film, it does make for some exciting possibilities in the DC Universe. While it has long been rumored that DC would like Michael B. Jordan to play Superman, we could potentially have Jordan and Henry Cavill teaming up together, giving us two Supermen at once. While it sounds as though Cavill might have signed a new contract to continue working within the DC Universe, it doesn’t sound as though he will soon be starring in another solo film. However, that doesn’t mean in the future that we couldn’t see a co-lead Superman film down the road.
Henry Cavill has said quite recently that he isn’t done playing Superman, and if this rumor proves to be true, not only would it confirm he will continue as the character, but it makes his future in the DC Universe even more exciting. As of right now though, Cavill is only attached to Zack Snyder’s Justice League, which will be released on March 18, 2021 through HBO Max.
